New 328i MSport finally arrived.....

Big jump from my previous 2010 E90 330d. Almost as if BMW have progressed two generations in one go.
Far less NVH than the diesel and much more nimble. The advantage of carrying less weight, particularly over the nose, I guess.

Great looking car there. Will be interested to see how you think it differs from your old car (330d - same as me )....
I see it weighs 105kg less so you should definitely be able to feel that, as you say.

Great looking car, classy wheels and the blue/red combo isn't for shy retiring types

Will be interested to hear your impressions of the car over the next few k's as the 328i doesn't seem to be the big seller over here in the UK with more people going for the 320d or the 330d? Personally I've had diesels for about the last 6 years and just fancied a change while wanting something with a bit more shove than the 320i.

Are they the stock M Sport wheels ? Been wondering what mine will look like .. seen plenty of pics of the optional 19" M Sport wheels - but not many people seem to keep the stock 18s.

Very Nice Nick

Good colour combo nick, nice to see it looks sweet. I have 320d M Sport arriving at the end of the month with the standard 18" wheels and was worrying what they would look like but I think they look better than the 19" wheels it is just a shame they don't do the stock wheels a size up like the F10.

Love the EB and stock 18s. (That's what mine would have looked like)

Interesting less weight comment for the 328i, should indeed handle very well. Although never noticed the 330d nose being heavy.

What are the performance / mpg figures like?

I'd be interested to know how it compares performance-wise to your old 330d? I think it should be as quick but they say you notice the difference in torque.

Although I guess you wont tell us until you have run it in for a bit

Thanks for all the comments.

In terms of performance the 328i is a little quicker than the E90 330d and the F30 330d a little quicker than the 328i. Small differences though in absolute performance but big differences in the way the performance is given.

Choice of wheel is purely a personal one based on looks, I wasn't keen on the design of the 19s.

I went for the passive rather than active M sport suspension. I tried the active and (for me ) it was waste of time. I prefer my cars firmly suspended. The passive suspension is superbly judged and a revelation over the E90.

Big difference over the 330d is just how quiet and smooth the engine is. First tank of fuel looks like coming out circa 36mpg.

I promise anyone who has an F30 MSport on order you will not be disapointed.

I am currently driving the 382i F31 and have on order the 330D M Sport touring, the diesel is miles quicker, this 328i needs revs and lots of them to get it going IMO.

On paper not that much difference but as you say its all about the delivery, the torque difference will help. I'm going for a 330d F31 next, cant wait till I order around xmas time for a 13 plate.

Yep it's delivery that makes so much difference, your going to love the 330D, this 328i is a pain to me already, BMW to be fare have loaned this brand new car to me for however long my new 330D MS touring takes to arrive, so can't complain to loudly, one thing that is not so good, on down changes using paddles there is a delay between gears, and the car seems to drop[ into neutral between changes it's a bit unnerving . Economy @ a steady 70/75MPH is 37MPG, I have covered 400 miles in it so far, this is not bad for a petrol, but thats with NO boot down anytime just gentle driving. The 330 D M Sport on the other hand returned 53MPG with frequent boot downs.

Welcome to the Jeremy Clarkson forum - it's all about the P-O-W-E-R-R-R

Willy-waving aside though - for UK driving, a car with 245bhp that's capable of 0-60 in 5.9s (probably quicker if BMW's underrating of their engines is to be believed) is more than enough for pretty much any situation, unless you happen to be hung up about drag racing any 330d's or 335i's you encounter

Anyway, I can easily save the extra 0.3s it takes me to get to 60 cos I don't have to waste time putting on those silly plastic gloves every time I fill up

Do people actually use these ?

In nearly 20 years of car ownership, I've never used the gloves, and I don't think I've ever seen anyone using the gloves.

All very valid comments guys.
Diesel vs petrol is personal choice. There is little difference in the outright performance of the F30 328i and 330d. Having driven 62k miles over the last two years in an E90 LCI 330d my preference is for petrol. The biggest handicap to performance in the 330d is the lack of LSD.
But I say again whichever F30 MSport you have on order you will LOVE it....

I use the gloves.

Wasnt bothered with the smell, but more the dirt and for hygiene reasons.

I'm not OCD with washing and stuff, but they supply them so why not use them.

Lovely car btw.

Comon guys, guy's just got a new car and some are slating it .

Brave choice for the red, I contemplated it, but didnt go thru with it in the end. The wheel size, I think 19' look better in photos, but when I saw them in person at the showroom on a F31. They are huge.

Week 52!

No one has slated it, it's a fantastic car. It's all engine choice, the 328 is great the 330 is great, I'm going from a high revving 325 to a 330d for a change and the fact that I do all mway miles, never been a fan of diesels having had a q7, rrs and now evoque as the family motor but gonna give it another go.Think if I wasn't doing the miles and wanted mpg and auto then the 328 in manual would be the ideal choice.

Have fun op in your new motor, I'm jealous as I have to wait until march as funds are low at the moment.

Fantastic car. I've gone for the F31 330D, in the same colours. Looks awesome. I've always loved red leather since I was a kid in my grandads old Rover 2000. Memories.

1 weeks and counting!

Like the alloys; I went for the 19's as I like the bigger wheel look, however those 18's look fantastic too.

I still think the F30 M sport front does seem to ride high though (more so than the back)?
