So just how much caliper clearance do you need?
I just threw my brand new OEM 18" wheels (Style 189) with winter rubber on my slightly less new 340 with Msport brakes.
I checked to see what my clearance was like between the rim and caliper and while they're not touching it's not much. The caliper itself has plenty of room, but there are two metal (tabs?) that are barely a hair's width from the rims: View post on imgur.com Issue? No issue? Realistically, how much do the wheels flex, and will they flex in the right direction to cause issues? Figured I'd add an image of the whole care for anyone who might be interested: View post on imgur.com Last edited by Poon Stick; 10-28-2016 at 11:35 AM.. |

2mm or so. The whole setup moves as 1 piece, so you will be fine with that amount of clearance.

Thanks for the reassurance guys! I know 18" is the minimum but I've also heard that some aftermarket rims still don't clear the msport brakes (called m performance in US)
Since these aren't M-style wheels I thought there might be an issue. So I have a comfortable amount more than 2mm to the caliper itself but should I be worried about the metal tab things? They're literally less than a hair away from the rim and I expect dirt will get in there and scratch the rim - no big deal these are winters. I'm mostly worried about flex or anything that'll cause true interference |

If it were my vehicle, this would be too close for comfort.
OEM BMW 400M Style 18" wheels are reasonably priced and provide proper clearance for M Sport calipers. Your vehicle is still under warranty. It's worthwhile to use wheels which will not cause the dealer to question any brake related warranty work. Also - compare 189 Style and 400M Style wheels: 189 Style: 8x18 Front ET34 8.5x18 Rear ET37 400M Style: 18x8" Front ET34 8.5x18 Rear ET47 |

No issue except for pebbles and rocks. Heard a lot of people getting small rocks in minimal clearance and scraping up the rim and calipers.

Hi All,
Apologies for hijacking this thread but I'm new and haven't worked out how to create a new post yet!! If this is a problem let me know and I will delete the post. I have a 2013 F30, currently it just has 16 inch 306 wheels on which let the car down a bit in my opinion. On ebay a guy local to me is selling some black 17 inch Radial Spoke 73 wheels, the measurements are 7J 17 IS 47 Can anyone tell me if these will fit an F30? He had them on an E90. No tyres on them currently. Many thanks all, and apologies again for hijacking the thread!! |
