OT: help identifying a bmw
Need your help. Someone in my village was hit by a car this morning but they are having difficulty identifying it.
They think it was a silver bmw and describe a ' large fin on the boot'. I've shown them a picture of a spoiler and a fin aerial and they say it's like the aerial but much bigger and on the boot not the roof. Any ideas? Might not be bmw and it might be some aftermarket thing but thought I'd see if anyone know. |

The only things I can think of like that were audi a6 saloon and audi a8 from late 90s/early 2000s that had their gps receiver on the bootlid but that wasn't very large.
Unless it was a late 80s / early 90s American limo with a TV aerial on the bootlid. Hate to say it but such a vague description is unlikely to invoke any action from police etc. |

Was it a saloon? Coupe? Convertible? 4x4? Roughly how old? As mentioned above, very hard to narrow down with limited details supplied! Any CCTV's around the area where the accident happened?

I know. If it was you or I we would know the car instantly. It was ladies who saw it and they aren't sure. From what I can tell it was a saloon and they say F reg so late 80s but again they could be wrong.
They are adamant its a shark fin on the boot which I can't imagine at all. |

If the shark fin was on the boot usually a solid top covertable rather than a saloon if this helps.

My private plate starts with "F" so again might be a newer car with old plate! Sorry

Sorry, been waking my brains bit I am proving useless....
Can I clarify... They are suggesting that there was a fin-like structure on the boot of a silver saloon car that might be a BMW... Somewhat like the fin aerial on the top of our F30's, but much larger than that... They think it was "F" reg (but this may be a red herring as could be a private plate)... Like you, Alkidrew , I cannot imagine it.... The closest that I came up with would be something like the wind end plates of a 3.0 CSL Batmobile seen from the side... they would not be central, but??... Or maybe the side profile of the E30 M3 wing seen from the side (grasping at straws)... Or, like somebody else has suggested, the boomerang ariels on the old limo's..

You asked them about the spoiler possibility, though....???
So I am doubly confused now... http://images.motortrend.com/feature...ar_profile.jpg http://images.motortrend.com/feature...ar_profile.jpg
