Algarve
Anyone holiday in the Algarve?
We often go to Majorca but some decent deals on the Algarve and wondering if it was worth entertaining.

Been quite a few times - with family and on golf trips. Lovely place, great weather, friendly people and some stunning hidden beaches. Would recommend.

For family friendly, you can't beat Martinhal in Sagres. Can get windy at that end of the coast but it is amazing there. For a first time, Vilamoura is a safe bet, plus some very nice wide beaches. |

For a small town on the Algarve I really like Carvoeiro. It's got all you need ; nice villas, nice eateries and a smallish beach - but there are loads of hidden beaches nearby. Our favourite is Albandeira Beach, great pizzeria there! Very family friendly.

We used to go to Vilamoura every year as the family had an apartment there, it's an amazing place, great beaches but very cold water and more restaurants and bars than you could ever visit.
Expensive though but definitely worth it just to see the boats and cars around the marina. |

I'll second Carvoeiro, in particular Ferragudo as I've stayed there are few times.
I also like Alvor great beaches and places to eat, I have a friend that lives there so was able to try some of the more local places. |

I'll go against the grain re Carvoeiro. Lots of v nice secluded beaches around, but I didn't like the town part at all. Some nice restaurants but the centre felt like it had too many "all day English breakfasts" for my liking...

Just back from a yearly blokes golf trip to Vilamoura. 8 of us go. Standard of golf declines as the week goes on.
Been a couple of times with the wife and kids. It's fine. Would happily go again. |
