Am I missing something or is there no panic button?

I have a 328i, without alarm. But is there really no panic button? I keep hearing people to say leave your keys by your bed at night in case someone breaks in you can hit panic to scare them off.

Even my mom's dodge neon has a panic button.

I usually leave a furby under my car overnight, which I have rigged to be activated remotely. It scares off anything that comes near (or within earshot), including myself.

On a more serious note, if you don't have the alarm system, I don't think this will work... but try holding your 'trunk' button for 3 seconds-- although I can't check right now, I believe that's how to activate the alarm.

No panic mode if you don't have alarm. The car's that come with the alarm actually have a different key fob with a separate button.

FYI, car alarms scare no one.

I've always thought they would be more useful if they took photos or paged me instead. Some aftermarket alarms do the latter I think.

While it's nice to have, everyone is right in saying that an alarm scares no one except inexperience criminals.

Your car is engineered for it to be almost impossible to use anything but valuables left in the car. Someone can't steal a BMW radio and use it in another car without proof of ownership at the dealer, it's really hard to hotwire, etc.

Plus - how would you know someone is "trying to break in" when you're in your place?

While I agree to this statement, I do have to say that I consider the alarm mostly for my own benefit so that I know whether or not someone is getting into my car or not. I know nobody else will look at it, and I know criminals wouldn't care about it either.. however, if I hear my own car alarm go off, I will take a look

Some thieves felt different about this F20

Good ears?

Nah, the windows are always open here.. The only time I will not be able to hear my car is when I'm at a mall and doing some shopping or something similar.

There is a panic button below the trunk button on your key fob. Hold it for 3-seconds to make it sound. Press any button to silence it.

See panic button in red but you need to add alarm if you ordered 328i and standard on 335i.

Wait, what? If you buy a 328i you don't get that button at all? There is NO alarm installed? I thought the alarm upgrade was just for the remote disable, and remote tracking stuff, not a basic alarm system.

exactly no alarm at all! You can lock/unlock your car from the remote and its not audible. So no chirp when you lock the car. Another benefit of a 335i

You may want to add that option before production. I was going to on my 328 order, just for the audible chirp when locking, before I upgraded to a 335.

The 328 hasn't come with a standard alarm for years, starting with the E90. It used to be prewired for dealer installation if you change you mind, but it doesn't even come prewired for dealer installation anymore.

The remote disable and remote tracking is from BMW Assist, which is separate from the alarm.
