Snow....cold weather....yes please!
Can't wait for it, finally a chance to see what difference my first set of winter tyres really make on a BMW....hope it comes down thick and fast!!
Also, it will substantiate buying new alloys and tyres for the winter! |

Well obviously it won't happen now. Especially if you've had to justify the purchase to either an employer or even worse, SWMBO

I can live without the snow, haven't gone for winters this year. And the biggest issue is other motorists going out of control and hitting your nice new F30/31s !!

Before xmas, when it was freezing my wife hit some ice i the M135i - the car started to skid then found some grip. If she had carried on, she thinks she could have hit the car coming the other way.
Therefore i think my winters have already paid for themselves! Then in the 5er, we drove down to the inlaws at night + freezing fog and the extra feel/safety gave me a nice warm comforting feeling (as all the family were on board)

I'm with the snow haters on this one!
If it snows, I'm not driving so will be spending the day at home building snowmen with my kids. Actually, that sounds better than a normal day so maybe snow isn't so bad after all

What's with all the haters..
I love the snow! Obviously when it gets to be more than a few inches the fun has to stop, but until then... Snow=Sideways=Smiles

I don't mind if it snows ... cos my car will stay tucked up in the garage, out of the reach of all the other idiots on the road

Got a feeling I'll be back on snow in a day or so.
My biggest concern is other drivers. No fun to see what goes on, all the talk is usually about traction, many folks forget they have to stop, particularly the AWD users, and they aren't all on all season or cold weather tyres. HighlandPete |

If this snowmageddon does occur does anyone have any tips regarding the auto box and driving on the standard tyres? As I've only got this car until early February I certainly won't be investing in a set of winters. This is also my first automatic.

It's a shame really because I do so enjoy driving in snow. A bit of a challenge I think. Fortunately prior to this loan car I've always had a manual and either winter tyres on a RWD, Audi's Quattro gubbins or a FWD with decent tread. The BMWs drive sooooo well for the 360 days it's not snowing it's just a shame they're utterly bob-arr when it does.* Oh well. There's new rubber on the family bus. That'll have to do. *Tyres, tyres, tyres. I know. Before anyone starts. |

So....say i would like to get some winter tyres...I'm guessing
1) they're going to cost me close to £1k? 2) will the local dealer change them for free in March and October? 3) will they store the set I'm not using and if so, roughly how much do they charge? I've no doubt winter tyres are safer in colder temps (even if there's no snow on the ground) so I'm sold - but are they a realistic option for someone who doesn't HAVE to drive if the road conditions are tricky (i don't need the car to commute). |

No I doubt they'll change them for free, but it's very reasonable: my dealer charges £10+vat per tyre. They will store them, or you can bring them home. Think it's about £60 for them to store them for the year. Winter tyres are better when the temp drops below 7degrees, so yes they will be an improvement even if it doesn't snow. And when it does; well they're the difference between being able to get moving at all, and not!
