Lightbulb Alloy/wheel upgrade questions

With my 320d SE still in production I have been researching on alloy/wheel upgrades as Im not too happy with the 393 style. I have liked a few alloys which are aftermarket solutions as they cant be beaten on price. I had a couple of doubts and am looking for some expert advise on this.

As standard my 320d SE would come with 17" 393 alloys with the 225/50 R17 run flats. Now, if I wish to upgrade to say a 18" or a 19" will that be considered a modification for insurance etc? Also what are the side effects of doing this. At present I have selected some really good looking Wolfrace alloys which are 17" as I dont intend to change/replace brand new tyres but are there any better brands out there? Ive heard a company called Alutec supplies BMW with the alloys but am not sure how true this is. Found lots of good alloy aftermarket options at this site below which are less than half the price when compared for a set through BMW

Any ideas/suggestions welcome. Thank you

Personally i'd stick with OEM wheels, can you not see if the dealer could do you a deal on set of 18"?

Thing is I cannot change my spec now as its into production. Also they will charge £1200 for the upgrade to the ones I like!!!

Most insurance companies will consider new wheels a modification and charge extra - more so if you buy them aftermarket and they aren't factory fitted.

In terms of impact on the car, they'll obviously affect the ride and fuel economy to some extent, though this appears less of an issue on the F30 than it was on the E90 (from my limited experience of driving a few different F30's).

If you have aftermarket alloys and aren't fitting the latest generation runflats that the F30 uses, there may be differences in terms of ride and handling, but I only have experience of this on the E9x.
