Cool Spec help please

Righty ho, dealer screwed up his figures and what I thought I was getting into was a 328i SE. Not happy that I wasted half a day and have decided I am not going back to Douglas Park as a result.

Really want into a new f30 now, I have a couple of options on the table

320d Msport
320d sport

Going for the msport I think and the real toss up is whether I take a manual or stick with auto (the sports auto box). Both cars specced with Visibility and Pro media, I want the iphone integration as well. Sadly that does not appear to be possible with the business nav, however I did read that the new ios 6 will connect data natively to the business unit (I think). If it did I would prolly go with business and add in HK if possible.

I also want heated seats on the front (bad back, it does help) and really do need the back seats to go down and split for practicality of family hols etc.

Colour choice, been in Titanium Silver and Black leather for too long...

Alpine White, Coral red dakota.
Melbourne Red, Venetian Beige dakota.
Mauritius Blue, Venentian Beige Dakota

Not too bothered re the active steering thingy etc or suspension.

Is there anything I am seriously missing out on?

Alpine White and Coral Red Dakota is a great choice My personal favorite would be the Sapphire Black + Coral Red or Estoral Blue + Beige And not to forget - Brushed aluminium trim for the interior!!!

Add ons I would include:

Xenon headlights - £710.00
19" 403M style with mixed tyres - £580.00
H/K Speaker System - £650.00
Servotronic Steering - £180.00
Black Panel Display - £140.00

Agreed except I think servotronic is standard on the Sport models? Anyway, Adaptive suspension should be high on your list too ... at least if you're a well adjusted human being and not one of our colonial cousins who thinks rock hard suspension all the time makes you stronger and more attractive to women

I'd second the adaptive suspension - not actually driven one with it specced but most accounts suggest it makes a big difference on pockmarked UK roads.

The standard car misses out on interior storage. For example the neat little tray for money etc to the right of the steering column is part of the storage pack, as are pockets in the rear seats and some other niceties. May not be important to you but I personally miss them.

On an M-Sport I don't think you can really beat Estoril Blue, but AW would look good (but then I would say that), especially with the red seats. You would have to check what dashboard trim you get with this as presumably you would get something other than the standard blue highlights, which would look horrible with red seats!

I chose manual over auto for mine, largely on cost grounds. With hindsight I might've preferred the auto, as the manual is the usual BMW shift that needs manhandling to get the best out of it. It does feel good when you get shifts right though! Taking price out of the equation I guess it depends how much of a purist you are with the driving experience.

Am yet to test and feel the difference. Will try and get a test drive with adaptive suspension soon. For now the 320d being my first car Ive already splashed out and exceeded my budget so will stay calm till my next car!

Hi, ordered my 320xdrive sport on Sunday. Had a 320 auto from dealer for the weekend.

Personally the auto is amazing (I have driven the manual too), not only is it cleaner and more efficient, it totally transforms the driving experience. Interior comfort is also well worth it although we can talk all day how that stuff should be standard. Non folding headrests actually block out car behind.

I think after that it is personal choice, my priorities were top sound system, pro Nav and HUD.

Looked at a few colours, just think you can't beat Estoril blue.

Hope that helps, good luck.

Thanks for all your replies guys.

Really would like to see an Estoril Blue and Venetian Beige in real life.
White and Red looks very nice but I am not sure that I am totally sold on it as it may be a little on the flash side for me.
I did see a Melbourne Red and Venetian Beige in the showroom and thought it stunning but worried about Red over time.

I actually am reconsidering the 320d for a 320i xdrive now, I didnt fully appreciate they are available and the petrol engine suits me better for the journeys that I do, it is one of the reasons I am changing down from the e92 330d.

I was ready to sign on Sunday, i started to look at these options...my head is spinning and the costs escalating...time for a reality check I think!

You could just get a 320i (RWD) and set aside a bit of money for winter tyres. Might give you a useful saving to spend on options.

To be fair, though, winter tyres aren't gonna help a great deal A front engined, rear wheel drive car is what it is and it's crap in snow. Winter tyres just mean you spend more on tyres

Xdrive is not just about snow for me. Dark winter night - black ice or invisible large standing water - RWD and winter tyres will offer very little.

4WD won't help you with black ice and standing water dude At least not in circumstances that would actually make you crash, like on a bend or under braking. Don't get me wrong though, I'm gonna really miss 4WD when I swap my MPS for the 3 series and if there was such a thing as the 330Dx I'd have ordered one. But alas there isn't and a 20i just isn't enough poke to keep me smiling I'm gonna miss pulling out of a tight junction in the wet and just planting 300bhp/350ftlbs to the road and not worrying about the car doing anything other than rocketing forward but then maybe putting 250bhp/400ftlbs through the rear wheels will be fun in a way my MPS never could be. Or it'll kill me. One or the other

I live in Scotland, we got off lightly last winter. I have already got winter wheels and alloys in my garage. Xdrive will ensure I get out of the driveway next winter.

Still considering options finding it hard to comprehend some dealers attitudes towards sales and contacts. No names of course but you give them an open goal to shoot at and they miss by yards.

I've hit black ice in an a4 quattro. Trust me, it wasn't my driving skill that kept me on the road. The car behind me flew off the road and hit a tree.

Yeah this winter will be fun. The wife's Mazda 5 is rubbish in snow and I know this Bimmer will be. Next winter should be OK as we'll have replaced the wife's car by then and I've told her she's having a 4x4 Although she wants an XC90 ... didn't see that coming

no it won't, aquaplaning is caused by water depth, tyre tread (lack of) and speed.

Maybe it should better read "4WD will help prevent catastrophic control failure in the case of aquaplaning"

I think 4wd it is. When I change which is now in doubt for a number of reasons, mainly dealer apathy.
