Tipping your service advisor

I'm curious, does this happen? Good idea to help develop a relationship? Any experience?

I was thinking about tipping my SA $20 next time I'm in for service or whatever.

I would be offended, this is not a low wage job.

That's tacky. A lot of people in the service sector not in roles which are traditionally tipped will feel belittled if you tip them. A bottle of wine or similar level gift just to go above and beyond a standard thank you will suffice if he has ever exceeded a level of service you expected.

I believe they are more concerned with the after service survey. That being said, I tip our pizza guys $5 every Friday.

+1 on the wine (or bourbon). Well, assuming that your SA drinks.

You should take care of your SA.

Here is a tip on the tip:

1. Always tip BEFORE the work is completed. Otherwise, you lose the benefit of the tip.

2. Always tip SA no less than $50.

3. Always tip the mechanic no less than $50. Just give the mechanics tip to the SA and ask the SA to give the tip to the mechanic.

4. Never, ever bring up or discuss the tip with the SA or mechanic for any reason. Just forgetaboutit. Never use the tip as leverage. Never tell anyone. Never avoid giving the tip if something goes wrong.

5. Never expect anything in return.

6. If the service sucks, take your business and your tip quietly elsewhere.

7. Over time, you will earn respect and you will be treated with respect.

8. Always treat others the way you want to be treated.

9. This is the cost of owning a BMW.

WTF...no. That's so beyond unnecessary.

Do you tip your accountant or attorney, too?

One of the craziest tipping advices I've ever seen. Pass on the advice unless it's 1904 and you're an old fat man with tailcoat, hat and monocle...

Nice on one hand, but on the other hand, it's called corruption...

SA should NOt be expecting anything in order to do their job... WTf

If this is how it is, i will be going to Lexus for my next car.

My SA got a tip in the form of 3 referrals that bought cars from him...that's the best tip you can give.

Doesn't rule #1 conflict with rule #5?

I owed my buddy $40. He kept asking about it even though I was flying to see him in a couple of months. I sent him a $5 check each day for eight days. Completely worth it.

Now you're just trying too hard to sound cool. Any adult who's been to lunch with someone in professional services knows how expense accounts work.

Unless I'm getting trolled. If that's the case, then congrats...you're good.

I brought my SA some craft beer after they found a lingering issue on my car other shops didn't find. I was quite happy.

If service was truly extraordinary, I would do the bottle of wine route or some sort of small gift. It's more about showing my appreciation. What will never happen is me handing out $100 bills before hand.
