Amber Check Engine Light

Turned on my car yesterday and the amber CEL came on. Car ran completely normal, no shakes, no anything. I was driving the car the day before and nothing seemed to be wrong. I checked the gas cap cause I know that can sometimes be the problem but it didn't go away after about a 10 minute drive. Should I be concerned?

Just read the codes and let us know what it says.

If it was the gas cap, it won't reset itself. I have had that problem.

Most auto parts stores have a code reader that can tell you what's up. I can tell you from experience that it appears that it won't reset, but after cycling ignition off and then on, the CEL went off.

This is the code I pulled today from the car. Pretty sure this is the gas cap one after reading up on it but I haven't filled the car up in 2 weeks so i'm a bit confused.

Can you clear it? Can't remember if that one clears on its own or not.

This is a prime example on why asking for help without codes is completely useless. There are over 1000 things that might cause a SES to illuminate. Unfortunately, Whelan, by posting complete speculation you haven't added anything to this conversation.

The evap system is tested periodically; doesn't have to be the gas cap.

Okay... Okay... Move along. Nothing is getting done.

Check the gas cap and the seal. If good, screw it tight, clear the code, and see if it repopulates.

Yeah I cleared the code and it was gone when i restarted the car. I will get it looked at if it comes back

Understood that it does not help the OP with their specific situation, as I mentioned, different engine entirely, but thought someone else might find it useful.

It will only be useful if you edit your post and add the codes that appeared. Otherwise, it's just noise.

It will reset itself. I just experienced this myself. Light went out within a couple of drive cycles.

Yes, you are probably right. I just had the same code and it ended up being the NVLD which bmw extended the warranty for because it is a known issue.

Both are possible for sure, just gotta start with the easy stuff haha. He hasn't replied so I'm going to assume the issue hasn't popped back up yet

Hey guys I was driving my car today and out of no where I got this CEL. I went to my nearest auto parts store so they can read the code and it up at P11C7 and despite doing research nothing has come up. The auto parts store didn't have anything on file either so now I am stuck. The light went away after driving it for a while but I'd rather me safe then sorry. The car is lowered on springs and it's pretty stiff, could that mean the cause of the problem?

Are you a SULEV model? If so and depending on your mileage, this might be covered by the extended warranty for emission-related components. Something worth checking.
