They build to spec at all factories, it just depends where the allocation is coming from.

Ask me, ask me!!
Very happy with my May 2005 SA built E90. Still feels every bit as tight as the day I took delivery of it almost 7 years ago.

Looking forward to my SA built F30 328i M-Sport later this year.

My E90 was a custom order, built in Rosslyn, SA.
My upcoming F30 is a custom order and will be built in SA as well.

From what you said earlier, that was the resolution you had decided to follow. Really interested to see how this turns out. BMWNA was very quick to respond to my concerns of not receiving an option on my vehicle that was supposed to be included in my purchase. Within a few weeks, they had sent me a check and my local dealership was kind enough to throw in some freebies as well to rectify the situation. I assume that since the service dept has had your car longer than you have had it in your own garage, that the only way to solve this issue is for you to get a new Bimmer (as justinnum had mentioned, you would be protected by the 'lemon law'). Good luck and keep us posted my friend. In the meantime, enjoy that X5....Maybe if you and your wife enjoy the X5, you could maybe negotiate for the 2013 X5.

yeah, i called yesterday and spoke with the sales manager, as my service advisor told me to talk to them since it's unlikely they'll find a fix... the manager, Henry, said he was going to talk to BMWNA to see what they wanted to do. Of course I didn't hear anything from him today. Also yesterday I didn't hear back from him after our 10:30am conversation until I called HIM back at 6:30pm.

I've also submitted an inquiry on bmwusa.com and sent an email to customerrelations@bmwusa.com -- no response from either, besides the automated acknowledgement that I sent an email.

I'd like to just get her a 528i; white/black.. but it's stupid if i'm going to have to pay more because they aren't able to fix my car. i also wasted two days in negotiations and took time out ofmy schedule to initially purchase the car. not to mention that it's been TWO WEEKS of having to call them every day to find out the status of our vehicle.. it's extremely aggravating.

i'm not trying to whine like a baby, but when you shell out the kind of money a BMW commands, you expect it to work -- and if not, you expect a level of communication that will keep you informed. this is the 8th BMW (two convertible 335s, convertible '09 m3, convertible 650i, 04 330ci, M6 convertible, this 328i and a 535i...) we've had in our immediately family in the past 3 years and I'm considering jumping ship.

Well the tire change did not end up fixing mine. Still a noticable vibration between 45 to 55 mph. They have road force balanced all tires and changed one front one out. Not sure what they can do next?????

It really pains me to see this type of situation. I get where your coming from in regards to your frustration especially with having to shell out 50k (if I remember correctly) for your new Bimmer and the fact that you have had experience with owning multiple Bimmers in the past. I think the only way, would really to be diligent in getting a response (it is a pain and extremely aggravating), but I'm sure they will really look into your case. In our situation, we made the phone call, they said to call back in 4 days. We called back and they said that can't do anything, so I gave them a piece of my mind. Then all of a sudden a few days later, BMWNA called me to let me know that they will be cutting me a check. Then 'coincidentally' my SA called me from our dealership to check up on me about half an hour after BMWNA's call. Eventually, after 2 weeks, I got the check in the mail (and a few freebies from our dealership).

Just an FYI, I have been testing to see if my Bimmer has the same issue your having with the 40-60mph steering wheel shake, and fortunately we are not having this problem. So definitely, this is an issue with your vehicle. Really unfortunate to hear about this problem on your brand new Bimmer.

How many miles have you clocked in your Bimmer? If it is not too much, as in 100 or 200 so miles, then I think the could give you a solid deal on a 5 series. But if I were you, just to make it worth your while, check if they can give you a good deal on a 535i.

Again, best of luck on this and pls keep us posted. By the way, I think it is best if you call BMWNA rather than email. Call 1-800-831-1117 and you will get to talk to a representative that will forward you to the appropriate person. It worked for us and will hopefully work out for you my friend.

I don't like this, i had the vibration too....just returned to the dealer when i picked up my brand new f30 after driven no more then 2 minutes.
A service guy drove with me and said it was just a little vibration and would be gone withon 2000 miles.....

After driven 2500 miles it is still there so i brought the car in last tuesday, picked it up atthe end of the day.

They balanced all wheels and rotated the tire on the rims....

They said, now it is gone, we tested it...
Guess what, nothing has changed....the steering wheel shakes at 40-60 mph and i feel in the steering that the car doesn't float smooth but is "searching its way...

Drives me mad

can anyone post a video of this vibrating or at least describe how bad it is? i know mine shakes a little bit but i'm sure that is because all cars do just from driving but i want to make sure.

edit: my old passat used to vibrate really bad when i was braking (warped rotors) is it anything like that?

Mine has it too. Seems be most prevelant at 40-60mph. There must be an issue with the steering rack.

I'm not going to bother taking the car in yet, its so minor that as long as you have one hand on the wheel you would never know its there. I'll probably just have it fixed at the 1 year service, hopefully there is a fix by then...

To those of you with this issue, what brand and model of tires are on your cars?
I'm wondering if it is a quirk of the tire itself. What's interesting is that this steering wheel wiggle isn't something the OP feels, just sees when driving hands off the wheel. Plus it is only at a specific speed. Balancing and changing tires doesn't help so there is no "defect" with the car per se. And not every F30 owner is experiencing this.

So to my analysis the steering wheel is communicating what the tires are seeing on the pavement (in other circumstances a good thing). Maybe the common element is tire brand/model. Determining that should help the OP seek a reasonable resolution from BMW - replace brand x with brand y tires.

I have been trying to test for this particular issue the last couple of days, and haven't experienced the vibrating and such. *Knock on wood* But will continue to look out for this. I really feel for those experiencing this issue since there appears to not be an immediate fix at the moment, especially in the case of the OP since his Bimmer has been in the shop longer than his garage. I hope BMWNA will step up and solve this issue .

Just for reference, our F30 has the Pirelli Cinturato P7 RFTs (18" wheels).

Does anyone know if putting on after market wheels and tyres fix the issue?
