Aftermarket / mods and Effects on Trade in

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I am curious to know the effects of using Aftermarket products and their effects when you try to trade in your BMW .

I am keen on having couple of products which didnt come standard in my bmw but a bit unsure about the effects when i will have to trade-in/ sell after may be 3-4 years.

As most us are aware of these cars depreciate faster than lot of other non-luxury models

Apologies if this was discussed earlier as well.

Have them done by a reputable dealer/shop, make sure the work is done professionally, and you will see little impact.

If you're talking about swapping in an LSx engine, and putting on some smokestacks, then maybe you're on to something, but otherwise I've not seen huge losses of value with well-executed mods/upgrades.

As I've said before in other threads, when I took delivery, my SA even suggested some upgrades, including forged wheels, a JB4 or similar tune, exhaust mods, etc., and this was for a lease. He reiterated the same to me: if they are done well, no need to worry.

Dealers prefer cars traded into them are as close to stock as possible. Aftermarket mods appeal to a smaller potential customer base than a stock vehicle. One exception to that in the case of BMW is any of their official M Performance ad-ons. In fact in the case of a lease adding the M Performance Power Kit and exhaust will increase the residual of the car.
