Brakes slow to release when wet/raining?
I posted this in the brake section, but not much response as most people don't see those posts as often.
So I am posting it here as well. I have had my 340i Msport since last September. I did a bed in within the first 100 miles or so when new. The brakes, overall, feel nicer in my 340i than my 335i Msport. The issue started around November iirc, when it got colder and much wetter. When it rains, obviously the brake parts get wet. That's when I feel and hear the calipers releasing slower than when they are dry. I notice this because I hear that light vibration that occurs when you release the brake pedal slowly. However, I get this noise and vibration even when I fully and quickly release the brake pedal, but only when it's wet outside. When it's dry the brakes work smoothly and quietly. Anyone with a 340i Msport with the stock brakes have this as well? Do you notice these symptoms on any other LCI 3 series? It feels like the hill assist is releasing the calipers slower than normal when it's wet outside even when I'm not on an incline. I haven't taken it to a BMW dealer tech yet, but I will be in the next month. If anyone has or had this issue when the brakes are wet, like on rainy days, please let me know. BTW, this noise/vibration happens only when taking off from a complete stop, and even does it when the brakes are fully warm and/or hot. The common condition is wet brake parts due to rain or melting snow/slush. |

My last 2 BMW's had that feature as well, a 2013 335i Msport, and 2009 135i. However, that is not what I am feeling, because the light pad application is done while moving not after a complete stop and right when starting to move again. The hill assist is something that I think could be the culprit as it adds a slight delay on the brakes if the car is on an incline. This was a very nice in m 135i with MT and very useful. I found it very odd that BMW also includes it on AT. However, I never experienced this issue with my 335i Msport also with AT. This feels very much like a "sticky" caliper, but I know it's not because it only happens when it's wet out. Now it could be related to the auto pad application during wet driving to help dry the rotors. But, if that is true then there is something very wrong with the system because it's applying the pads only during the initial movement right after a complete stop. I'm also wondering if the Msport brake pads may not like wet conditions. I've experienced different pads over the years and some behave oddly when wet. On my 2013 335i Msport, it had a "special"/different pad compared to the standard 335i. The pad had a more "aggressive" material, which I didn't like as it made for an overly bite-y brake feel. Overall the brakes on my 340i Msport feel better compared to my 335i Msport, except for the odd behavior in wet weather. Since no one else has experienced this, or hasn't posted, in both areas where I posted this thread, then it may be an unique issue with my 340i. I'll have to have the BMW techs take a look. Thanks for the suggestions gentlemen. |

Sudden braking during wet weather
Hi All
During the past few weeks I have noticed that during rainy weather, my F30 320i 2015 automatically brakes by itself for a couple of seconds. Is this normal? Is this how dry braking works? Many thanks for any insight/advice. |

You shouldn't notice dry braking, unless you are listening to things that don't make any noise.
