Does Eco Pro disable the turbo?

Just wondering if Eco Pro mode disables the turbo. Given the serious drop in power compared to Comfort mode, it seems possible that Eco Pro disables the turbo.

If it does disable, Eco Pro would be a great way to warm up the car. Keep the turbos offline while the oil is still cold. (Assuming that the turbos are lubricated/cooled by engine oil, like in the N54)

Insight here would be much appreciated!

It does not disable the turbo. You'd definately know when the turbo is disabled, i.e. limp mode. EcoPro just controls the revs.

Also, if you've ever slammed the pedal to the metal in EcoPro mode you'd notice an image of a shoe smashing the pedal and informing you to loosen up.

I think you can disable that shoe warning, it's in the Eco Pro settings menu, i.e. driving tips.

Ah okay, thanks. It's also always yelling at me cuz I'm going too fast. I'm assuming I could turn that off too then.

Yes you can - turn it to Sport mode! Seems like your driving style is there anyway so you might as well enjoy the ride.

I'm not sure how it works on the regular F30, but in my ActiveHybrid when I engage Eco Pro there is a brief screen on the iDrive that comes up to allow me to change Eco Pro settings, and Driving Tips is one of them. You can also set a warning tone to sound at a preset speed limit. I turn all these things off

I probably will use sport mode more. I just don't know yet how it'll affect my mpg. I've been averaging 28 over the entire life of my car, almost 4k miles.

Does anyone consider driving in Sport+ unsafe?

There is no power drop in Eco pro mode. The throttle is less responsive and it shifts very early. If you push the gas pedal hard enough you will see the power is still there when you need. It just doesn`t allow you to use it.

Best answer in the thread.

It's more of a change in throttle response and shift point than anything else. As you go to the more agressive settings the car responds to less pressure on the throttle and shifts later.

Only real difference between sport and sport+ is the way traction control works. It's not a huge difference either.

No point in using it unless you want to drift. lol. Only time I may is on the nurburgring, just so the TCS doesn't sap the power, but I'll practice first. Sport mode is a lot of fun, very useful for passing tractors and trucks on the country roads here in Bavaria.

I'm averaging a bit less, at about the same miles, but that's because most of my freeway driving is done at 100mph+, where the revs in 8th gear are 3000+ even in comfort mode. Then my regular drives to work are 70mph and slows to 35mph in towns and back up, over rolling hills. But I digress...

I only notice savings in eco pro when I can coast a lot at 60-65mph. Otherwise, you may as well just take it easy in comfort and use sport if you wanna pass someone real quick, or race it.

The difference between the three isn't that different than on my A/T e36 in concept, but I think the steering is affected on the F30 also. You'll notice a firmer feel in sport mode (maybe it's just the torque).

Sport+ turns traction control OFF in my experience (regardless of what the iDrive display claims). Stability control will always be in play, but not straight line traction control. I actually prefer it to be off myself. There's nothing worse than trying to get out into traffic and having the motor go limp. I can feather it myself if I need to.

For the OP - the car has a "drive by wire" accelerator. The software response is re-mapped to make it much less responsive to your inputs. Most cars these days have a very aggressive response mapped in early in the pedal travel. This gives folks a "seat of the pants" sensation that the car is really quick. It's just really quick in comparison to what they were looking for.

Awesome info here, folks. Thanks for the responses!

FWIW, I drive in EcoPro during my commute but the dang driving tips keep telling me to ease of the throttle and reduce my speed. Thanks to you guys I finally figured out that those are the "driving tips" that can be disabled via iDrive.

Again, thanks for the info and tips!

Personally Don't use eco pro because I hate ASS, so I drive in a mixture of about 70% comfort and 30% sport. I'm averaging about 23-24mpg on a mix of city (Manhattan) and highway/freeway driving, in winter with 600 miles on the car so far. Hoping that goes up a bit more once the engine is fully broken in.
