F31 320d xDrive M Sport Shadow Edition (2018) 6MT ordered!

Hello everyone!

New member here and this is my first post. I've been following this forum for quite some time and after ordering my new BMW, I finally decided to join f30post.

So, here is the thing: 14 days ago, I've ordered a 2018 F31 320d xDrive M Sport Shadow Edition. The car is coming in Alpine White with Black Dakota M sport seats with contrast blue stitching. The interior is Fineline Anthracite. I've also specified some other options like Hi-Fi stereo, Navigation system Business, heated seats, Adaptive LED headlights, etc.

The hardest choice before putting down an order was a decission, whether I should go for 8 speed sport automatic or a 6 speed manual transmission. After having leased quite some number of BMWs in the past 5 years (including 2012 F10 525d xDrive, 2014 420d, 2014 F31 320d xDrive and 2017 F25 X3 20d) that all came with an excellent 8 speed auto transmission, I really wanted a manual after all this time. Since this will be my first BMW that I'm actually buying and not leasing, I decided to make it sligthly more of a drivers car. I hope I'll not regret the decission.

As far as the engine is concerned, I decided for B47 2 litre twin power turbo diesel with 190 hp and 400 Nm of torque. I was considering 320i B48 engine with 184 hp, but although it was quite a bit quieter and more refined than 320d, performance wise I found it a bit sluggish and not as enjoyable to drive as 320d. It was interesting to see that the performance of 320i and 320d were almost identical on paper, but in daily use, the feel of torque made 320d feel superior to 320i, which really has to be revved the heck out of it to get the real performance. So the decission came down to 320d.

The waiting has started now. The car should arrive in the first half of November, so you can imagine that every day feels like it has 48 hours instead of 24 The photos are coming as soon as she arrives

I wish we could have a manual option in here as well as the B47 engine! Congrat on your purchase and enjoy the drive!

Congratulations and welcome! There are more than a few of us that are jealous that you can get an F31 with a 6MT ...BMW does not offer the F31 with 6MT in the US.

The 6-speed transmission in these cars has a great feel. I would highly recommend the BMW M Performance Shift knob/boot. I switched to that from the M Sport version which came with my car, and like it a lot better. 30 second install.
And get the M Performance pedals while you're at it.

Post up pics when it arrives!

Hey guys! Thank you for welcoming me on board.

@BimmerMat135: yes, the B47 is quite a step ahead of N47 in terms of refinement. I've driven them both - N47 in a 2014 320d xDrive and I'm currently driving a B47 engine in a 2017 F25 X3. And while the power increase of 6 hp and 20 Nm of torque is not that much noticeable (X3 is also heavier than F31), the B47 proves itself as a more refined engine with a noticeably more linear pull.

@CJ421: thank you for your recommendation of the BMW M Performance shift knob. I was actually seriously considering installing it into F31, but I'm not totally decided yet to pull the trigger... frankly speaking, I like the design of the original M Sport shift knob more but I know that M performance shift knob is the one with better feel. So at the moment I'm a bit torn apart between the looks and the performance

By the way, I also definitely decided to install the M Performance side skirts. I think they look really well on Alpine White with an M sport package...

Hi guys!

Just a little update: my dealer informed me yesterday that my car has been finished with production last week on October 13th. Shouldn't take more than 10 days now to arrive to the dealership. I'm waiting so eagerly that I don't get much sleep these days...

Thanks everyone for your compliments!

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying my car as much as I can, although she is still in a break in period... she only has 350 km (200 miles) on the the clock, so I'm treating her carefully This new B47 2 litre diesel is a masterpiece and an astonishing step up in terms of noise and refinement. It likes to rev too and is incredibly fast for a 190 hp 2 litre 4 cylinder diesel My friend owns an E60 525d with a 3 litre 6 cylinder engine (197 hp, 400 Nm of torque) and this 320d is actually faster as the numbers in a catalogue suggest. It sure does feel faster as well.

Oh, let's not forget... getting a 6 speed manual was the best choice I've ever made!

@BimmerMat135: so it's official that you won't get a touring version of a G20 in your country? It would be a real shame...

Congrats! Wagon, M sport and a color that isn't too dark - It's beautiful and 6MT on top. I love it. Enjoy!

There is nothing official but rumors suggest that we wont see the G21 Touring in North America.
