Inconsistent Low Beam Pattern
Hi all,
Anyone shed any light on why when I switch from my main beams to low, the light beam is sometimes flat and at other times it's only lowered towards the oncoming traffic. I was testing it tonight and at the same speed it switches between the two beam patterns. I suspect this is the reason I get flashed when I overtake cars from behind and the low beam isn't flat. I can see their teeth as their cabin is so brightly lit up So they probably think I've left my main beams on. Can this be coded off? My car has the adaptive xenons and I manually switch between main and low. Thanks. |

I know in North America, BMWs with Adaptive headlights have option code 8S4 - Decoding of Variable Light Distribution. This turns off the 3 speed-based beam patterns that you are seeing on your car. Assuming you add 8S4 to your VO and VO Code the car, it should turn off the multiple beam patterns.

Just use the automatic adaptive setting on the indicator stalk. The lights will automatically adjust to both on-coming and the traffic you are following.
I had adaptive xenon on my last F30. Don't manually override the hi lo beam. It's hard at first but you will see that 9 times out of 10 it will sort things out better than you can. If you want to only run things manually, switch the headlight control dial from the Auto to manual on setting. That may be the other reason you get odd behavior.
