2014 F30 335i Warranty question
Hey guys,
I'm trying to purchase a 2014 F30 335i. Will the factory warranty and maintenance free that's remaining on the car transfer over. The car is not from a BMW dealer. I tried calling a BMW rep and he was being very arrogant and wouldn't tell me about it unless I bought from them. Saw this thread: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1010257 Still confused. Hope someone out there can assure me that it will transfer over. |

I had a 2014 X1 and traded it for a 2014 335 both from non BMW dealers. Both Warranty and Maintenance transferred to me. 2015 is when it changed
“For model year 2015 or later vehicles sold or leased by an authorized BMW center on or after July 1, 2014, BMW Maintenance Program coverage is provided for the exclusive benefit of the initial purchaser, owner, or lessee of a new vehicle, sales demonstrator vehicle, Aftersales Mobility Program (AMP) vehicle, or BMW Group company vehicle from an authorized BMW center in the United States (including Puerto Rico).”

Try calling and asking a Service Advisor. A salesman would probably say no to try to get a sale.

I have read from some owners with similar dilemmas, and they said they called BMWUSA and had the car's ownership transferred to their names. They went back to the dealership, and was able to take advantage of the "new" car maintenance warranty...oil changes, micro-filter changes, brake pads...etc.
Not sure if this works universally, but a few of the owners did that, and it worked for them? I personally think it's bogus that the warranty doesn't transfer to the new owner like before. I mean, you buy a car off a short term lease (one year) and now have to pay another $700 to "refresh" the maintenance program?!?! May be BMW was trying to protect themselves against wholesalers getting these slightly used BMWs??

Lol this reminds me of the salesman at one dealership telling me that there was no way that the car I was looking at with another dealer had a warranty until 2019. Swore up and down that the other dealer had to be lying about it.

It would appear that pre 2015 warranty and maintenance transfer over, or stay with the vehicle. Based on this thread, it dosen't matter even if it's a private party or third party dealer, but this changed in 2015-2016. Then they changed the maintenance to 3 yr/36k miles without wear and tear coverage in MY2017. Also, only warranty is transferrable and not maintenance beginning with MY2015. CPOs have 1 year unlimited miles in addition to remaining warranty, maintenance package is extra. (Though 2014 CPO would still have remaining free maintenance of 4 years/50k miles and wear and tear coverage, so it might be better than a newer CPO)
