Retrofit additional USB in lieu of armrest cradle?

Hi, 4/14 F31 w/Pro nav.
The car has the armrest USB but not the phone cradle prep.
I have activated enhanced bluetooth, which is great, and the phone cradle shows in the system as an external option, but shaded out as nothing is connected.
I believe that if I wanted to retrofit the cradle prep then this would just be by way of a HSD cable plugged into the back of the NBT. I don't want this as I don't want to have to remove my iphone from its case.
Can I retrofit a second USB socket instead? Would this retain the functionality of the cradle + snap in adaptor?

Any pointers greatly appreciated.

TIA!

I can't see that being possible tbh.

What you could do is retrofit the cradle prep, and get the snap in adapter, and then use a male to female extension cable to go from the snap in adapters plug to your phone.

If it's an iphone 5/s then one of these should do it: http://www.appradioworld.com/2013/09...extension.html

Cheers, disappointing! I guess I was hoping just to be able to plug a similar USB HSD cable into the back of the NBT but in the socket for the cradle. Retrofitting the housing, then the iPhone 5S cradle and then using an extension would almost certainly work, but sounds like a v.v. expensive way of doing it.

I've got a not dissimilar lightning extension cable in our CR-V with a Pioneer AppRadio3, those cables are quite expensive for what they are, useful though!

My car is on order but has the mobile prep and I also don't want the cradle - apparently the universal adapter has (2) USB ... unconfirmed...

Actually, you can if you have NBT. Just get the regular beige HSD cable, shave the plastic surrounding the connector and plug it in the curry coloured port. I took my beige and plugged it into there and it'll show up under USB2 as if I had the armrest cradle.

You won't get all the functionality of the cradle but it can still be used as a USB port to play music off a USB key. You won't be able to play videos using the iPod interface though.

Epic, thats what I'm after! Thank you!

I've looked on RealOEM but have struggled to identify the HSD USB or cradle cables, don't suppose you have any idea of the p/n?

This will work. I bought a few things off this seller and his aftermarket cables are pretty good quality.

Aritaurus - spot on call, thank you very much!

Bought one of those cables from that eBay seller, took a few days to arrive, installed this evening and bingo, exactly what I was after.

I can also confirm that this works. I bought an emulator from that guy & his aftersales service was spot on.
