I hope it's out before the Fall. I can't wait that long; Cobb has good stuff for a ton of platforms so I'm anxious.

I emailed COBB last week, here's the response I got:

"Unfortunately we do not have an ETA for release at this point. We are hoping to have it out soon, there have been some changes on the ECU that we need to integrate in order to support the car. "

I just went to a Cobb event yesterday and spoke with one of the lead BMW engineers. Sounds like 6 months or so before they will be ready. The big problem is that BMW dramatically changed their ECU, so the Cobb team (and all of the other flash tuners) have to reverse engineer the ecu from square one and of course go through the process of thorough testing. They are working on it though, so we will just have to be patient. They also seem to have a good respect for Terry and his piggy back, and even said that their tunes will compliment the JB4... so I order the stage 1 (get it tomorrow and will roll with that until the Cobb tune is out. I personally trust these guys and appreciate the fact that they are not just throwing out a tune without a great amount of testing while still being reasonably priced. Luckily, I live in Austin (Cobb's R&D HQ), so I will be attended their first thursday meetups each month to learn more and check out some of the awesome rides that show up.

Really like Cobb and their handheld. Hope six months is all they need. I also wonder how their tune will affect ECO/Comfort modes.

I'm actually in Austin right now. I live in Houston though. I emailed Cobb also last week and they just told me to check back in about 2-3 months but it is on their roadmap. I think I'll go ahead and order JB too.

I got the stage 1 in today, but of course it's raining so I cannot play too much.

I can say that it took less than 5 minutes to get the stage 1 installed and there is a noticeable difference in power, and after meeting the Cobb guys, I feel confident that the two tunes are going to work well together.

After reading about the BMW power kit being offered - and initially being stocked about the $1000 pricetag, then getting a dealer quote for $1750 including install - I decided to try and find an update from Cobb.

http://www.cobbtuning.com/BMW-N55-St...tm#Description

I'm seeing 2011-2013 N55 Stage 1 packages for the 135i, 335i & 335xi listed on the website now. Anyone have any specific updates?

My MPPK cost $935, install was $135 (software only - I did the engine cover/intake updates myself). Huge power difference, way more than the advertised 20HP.

exactly!

I think Cobb/Dinan will have to rework their pricing strategy with this MPPK...$1k for probably 60-70 lb/tq at crank is pretty solid.

The mppk really is an awesome upgrade. Worth every penny and its REAL power, nevermind this 20hp crap. My car with the sport auto and power kit feels as fast as my Procede n54. I wish others could test drive a car like mine and see what I mean. I think a lot of people are going to miss out on this awesome tune because of advertised numbers.

Glad you like your M PPK tune, but i'd love to see it run a BMS Stage 1 or at least hear someone's comparisons who have driven both... seems silly to shell out over $1000 bucks with no resale value when you can pick up a Stage 1 for $375 then sell it for $250 a few years later when your lease it up or if you sell the car w/o the tune. And i'd prefer not to get into the whole "warranty" aspect of it either b/c it's a non issue if you just take the tune out prior to going to the dealership...

How is their no resale value?
It enhances your car, it's part of the OEM setup, you can sell it WITH the car at $1000 more than a comparable car. That's the point of these M - parts.

+1 - all that, and you don't have to be concerned with warranty issues, either. This is a value-add update, not a sneak-behind-their-back tack-on. Besides the added power, it also provides a few distinguishing parts like the new engine cover, opened-up intake, and some badging that can stay with the car. Nickel-and-diming on a $50K+ car just doesn't make sense, especially when you consider the added sophistication of the 8AT, dynamically-adjustable suspension and all the other things that set the F30 apart from the E9x generation.

Exactly!
It sort of made sense with my Mitsu Evo, getting an EcuFLash for $500 and calling it a day, but that was a $30k car.
I spent $47k for my 335i - I want to make sure the tune doesn't grenade the engine. Not saying BMS will, but if I spend $700 for a tune that'l arguably putting down the same numbers and can increase the resale value, why wouldn't one consider the factory tune.

And that's why it made sense for BMW to do this...it was a real smart marketing move AND a great competitor to Dinan and other tuners. It upped the ante for sure...

Cobb is a great tune. I dont think they have rushed out a tune because the car is so new not many people willing to risk their warrenty.
