In my experience, Audi RS/S-models have higher proportional resale value than their subdued counterparts. Similarly, the cachet of "the Audi S4" sounds a lot better than "the BMW 335i xDrive." This isn't to say that the 3-series is not as good as the S4, but where the 335i had better resale value compared to the old A4 3.2, the S4's performance pedigree implied within its name will provide a higher resale value than your typical run-of-the-mill 3-series. But if you put the M3 next to the S4, the M3 wins in terms of resale hands down.

To me Audi is nothing but an over priced VW....

I really liked the S5's when they were out and considered buying one vs M3.... In the middle of the recession the dealer would not budge on the price or even include Audi Care for free.... So I went back to the brand I know best and did not look back.

I would of taken my previous 335 over S4 and I would take my M3 over S / RS 5 any day of the week....

Most Audi dealers and owners for that matter drink waaay too much of their kool aid :-)

I've said it on other threads... BMWs are icons, Audis are cars...

+1, look at 2009 S4 prices then look at 2009 335i prices.

I've said it before, but I don't mind being repetitive.

The S4 is not produced or sold in numbers comparable to the 335. It's one thing to compare which car you want to purchase, but there is no reason to split hairs. Cars aren't driven on paper.

When I go to Audi dealers they always talk about BMW, and when I go to BMW dealers they talk about BMW. Anyway, I agree that my Audi experiences have not usually filled me with confidence in the competence of the sales staff.

Well, according to actual sales figures, your assertion is not true, regarding "premium/luxury" cars.

Audi and BMW are very close, MB is behind but close to Audi.

See my post above.

you can't compare those because back then the 335i was priced below the S4, now its priced the same.

Also the Audi dealer tried selling me on the whole "they are rare compared to the BMW" but is that really a good thing? Are they rare because Audi makes them rare or because there aren't many buyers out there for them

It is a great car and if price was the same I would take one over the 335i, but the best they could offer me was a $1,000 incentive and 5.5% off, which would be GREAT if it wasn't a 2012 model! with $4K in options I don't want/need As we all know if you are going to keep this for say 3 years, when you trade it in or sell it, the car is viewed as a 4 year old car because of model year, they don't care when you bought it.

I dont know about the newer models, but everyone I ever talked to about Audi or s4 they always say they start to fall apart after 3 years.

When I had my 04 cobra, my tuner Bob Kurgan use to tune out of a shop in Machesney Park Illinois called Eurotech, and when I was there I got to talking with the shop owner, and I told him I was considering an a4 for a daily, and aked him how they were he said quote "they are in here all the time for rapairs, look into something else." His words. They were mostly B5 and B6's but still, thats fairly modern cars.

You may not be confident in the sales staff, but BMW's no cost scheduled free maintenance doesn't hold a candle to Audi's considerably more confidence-inspiring service staff.

I have owned a few Audi and they do have good resale value, maybe a bit better than BMW or close to equal. The S4 is a pretty high demand car and high demand cars will have higher resale value, but I would not let the salesman use that as his tool. Negociate like you will keep the car for 10 years and resale value is not important.

That would vary depending on many factors. My parents and brother aren't very satisfied with their Audi service experiences. My wife and I have always been very pleased with our BMW service.
