Help me weigh my options...

Looking to purchase a 2017 BMW GT before xmas. It is for my wife who drives a lot for work and uses her car as a mobile office. The technology package is an almost must for her the way I look at it.

I also have a thing for the mineral Grey, probably because I had a 1986 325es and always liked the color.

There is a semi-local dealership that has a few for sale...

330i with 8,000 miles: $39,600 - has tech package, premium, cold weather, driver assistance, driver assistance plus, and sport line. Don't love the saddle interior, but can deal with it.

330i with 6,400 miles: $42,500 - has tech package, premium, cold weather, driver assistance, driver assistance plus, and M package. Don't love the silver, really...don't like the silver.

much longer drive, but doable:

340i with 9,800 miles: $43k - has tech package, cold weather, driver assistance, driver assistance plus, and sport line. No premium package and Black metallic paint...never had black paint before, so a little nervous about that...but...6 cyl!

Which do you think is the best value AND can you put an M style front bumper on a car that didn't come with it? That bumper really helps the looks!

Thank you!

I'd go with Door #2, just for the M package. You might not like the silver, but after you've washed it six times in five days you'll really hate the black.

What do you like about the M Package? Other than the front bumper, I am having a hard time justifying an extra 3k on that one.

There's more to it than the bumper. It's $4k additional when new, so $3k based on the total price of $42k is pretty good.

ask Your wife to test drive the 330i and 340i. If she grins with the 340i you got your winner. If power is no issue, I agree with billfitz, m package and don’t look back.

We just bought a 328 GT for my wife and she loves it! It’s just a sport line edition not m-sport so it misses out on the body kit and such but as it’s her car she doesn’t mind not having it.

Go with which ever car she likes most!

And we don’t get a 6 cylinder option in Aus which sucks but the 2.0ltr turbo flies!

The difference 0-60MPH with the six versus four is about 0.4 seconds, which wouldn't be a deal breaker for most men, let alone most women. A six is what you need if normally aspirated. It's what was in my '07 Altima, which I was never unhappy with, but despite being 500 pounds heavier than the Nissan my 328 is quicker, especially in passing.

Option 1. I actually prefer the rims on Sport Line over the M package rims. M Package gives you really nice steering wheel, but your wife may not care.

Perhaps you might negotiate on a new 2018 with the current incentives? Here's the deal I made to lease (3 year/10k) a 2018 330i GT arriving on the boat next week....

MSRP: $50,395 (Convenience/Premium/Sportline + Car Play and Blind Spot Detection)
Factory Incentives: ($4,500)
Dealer Discount: ($4,825)
Bottom Line: $41,070
Nothing down (using factory incentive for down)...$513/month

You might want different content for her and perhaps more mileage, but this just gives you an idea of what is available. Good luck and have a great holiday with your BMW!

I think BMW Financial Services may be supporting the lease residuals. I have 61% for 3 years/10k per year....seems high to me, which is helpful, indeed!

Thank you all for the input...the winner was option 1. With the city driving she does the overhead camera and was really good. As much as the M package was cool, the sport line was close enough with the darker grey.

Next question...

Anyone put a remote start in one of these?

You can't. Well, you can, but it's a massive job, because they're outlawed in Germany. Never felt the need for it in mine, the car heats very quickly anyway, and heated seats get comfy fast.

The OP searched for it.

And if you plan on keeping it more than three years what then? Not everyone has the same needs that you do.

It is going to be a company car for her, and she puts on way too many miles for a lease. The 1.9% financing for 6 years was a pretty good deal for us. Yes, we will take it in the shorts for depreciation, but it also stands a good chance of being my sons first car.

It's the right car for the right person. The car we are coming out of is a 1999 Q45T if that tells you about how long we keep our cars

lol, you are such an old hagggg. But a smart one.

I meant nobody is searching for these cars in general, sales are shit and after 2019/20, GT is gone, for good reason. Sales trump practicality in business most times.

They said the same thing about the 5GT after 2017. It's still around in 2018 as the 6GT. The most likely scenario has the present 4GC going away, replaced by a 4GT. The 3GT doesn't sell well in the US, but what can you say about a market where the #1, 2 and 3 sellers are pickup trucks? In more sane parts of the world it does pretty well.
