That's the reason I can't lease. I live 130 mls from my house. I rent an apt for night work next to my job. I drive home 4 sometimes 5 times/week. Thing is, I'm not sure what to do when I hit 50,000, do I extend the warranty or trade it in so BMW would be able to certify it before 50,000 mls.

you need to invest in another vehicle for driving back and forth to work. Save the BMW for leisure time.

As far as other issues, the "coolant water low" indicator kept going off at some point and after bringing it in multiple times they finally found that there was a small leak from the coolant water container that triggered the alarm when it touched the wires. They replaced it for me and since then I didn't have any problems other than the steering wheel vibration which many people had. This car is so much fun to drive and I wouldn't get any other car for the commute because this car is so entertaining. The best time is when i get on the highway with a cup of coffee early in the morning and listen to the radio on the way to work.

My display shows 3200 miles until the first scheduled change, so I'm right on schedule for the 15K service. |

So you'll be around 40,000 miles a year. You'll never get your money back, so might as well enjoy the car and extend the warranty (or take your chances) and keep the car till she dies. That many miles, you'll get crushed on a trade. Honestly, I would've bought a Honda for work and leased the BMW over buying it an putting 40k a year on it, if only because I would fear how well it could handle the 200k miles you'll put on it in 5 years... But I drive 140 miles a day round trip to work so I also get wanting to deal with the commute in the nicer car.

I see what you're saying, but I don't see why one would purchase a 50k dollar car to watch it mile out in two and a half years...Unless of course, 50k is what you bring in in the time it takes you to sip coffee in the break room.. |

Surely the BMW is bought to drive, the more the better.
To me, buying another car to drive the distance is defeating why I have a BMW. I want to enjoy every mile. Surely to keep the BMW for leisure driving, and running another car is not going to save much money, if any, long term. The leisure driving will then be the very expensive bit. Why not put the miles on the BMW, it is built for it, more so than plodding around the block. HighlandPete |

BMWs are made to be driven (fast and/or for long distances). You still drive the car luxuriously no matter how you drive it.

There are many users in the UK who will choose the high mileage used cars, because they have been driven over distance. Cars used in cities and urban environments, with all the wear and tear that goes with stop-start, cold starts, etc., are often the really worn out motors, even with reasonable mileage. Trade-in will of course reflect mileage, because the perception to many used car buyers... a car is worn out with mileage. Many just don't question the way a car is used. I've bought into the high mileage used car. Bought one at 21 month old, with 42k miles. Car was like new, had been used to commute on the motorway, driver lived a couples of miles from the motorway and worked a couple of miles from it, the other end of the trip. So was driver only, rear of the car had never been used, neither had the trunk. HighlandPete |
