Disable active suspension but keep throttle

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I want to swap my suspension, but keep the different throttle profiles. Driving in Sport/Sport plus vs normal is actually a lot more fun, and the throttle response is better (of course)

But can I keep it, or will the entire suspension swap disable it permanently?

Those two are not connected so the engine modes will not be impacted.

Awesome, so I will still have the active weighted steering and throttle profiles but the suspension (which will be fixed) will not change.

Will it set off a light? Do I need to code it?

It will throw errors if you just leave the shock plugs unconnected. There are delete kits that you plug into those connectors to fool the system that you still have EDC shocks but they tend to be pretty expensive. As for coding double check with an expert, depending on model in addition to coding you also need to physically unplug the EDC module. You can make coding changes which will impact the sport modes so make sure you get instructions how to avoid that.

I refreshed my 2012 F30 335 suspension with Koni FSD 3 years ago. It required coding to remove the EDC out of the car. My mechanic coordinated with Joe @ TopGearSolutions for this. You may know TopGear is (or was?) a sponsor on the bimmerpost forums with good reviews.

Here's my thread if you are interested.

Did it myself following guide I have around here somewhere and a 10$ obd cable from eBay. It's no harder than other tuning/coding tasks

Same - I like having the option of the sports steering and throttle. I used to hate the throttle, but with a tune it’s very good.

Not 100% sure, but I thought Sport+ did this for more predictable throttle response. Of course, you do lose some of the DTC safety with that mode.

You can configure your sport setting to put the throttle in comfort mode and keep chassis in sport mode.

It's actually DSC off that does that. Going from comfort to sport/+ changes the throttle and WGDC mapping to be more aggressive (sensitive), but the moment you fully disable DSC the throttle mapping goes back to comfort. TBH I'm not 100% sure if DSC off affects the steering or not compared to sport/+ but i have found this table to be generally accurate

Thanks, it was DSC that I was thinking then. I vaguely remembered one of those (which would make sense that you don't want non-linear throttle with full stability control off)
