It may be going to your phone, if you answered from it the previous phone call. Next time you answer a phone call check if the call is on the device itself and if it is be sure to change the source from the device to the vehicle and it should be okay.

Disconnect the Bluetooth, reconnect and try again. If it doesn't then reset you phone and try again. If that doesn't work then try another phone. If that works then it's your phone and probably not your car. It's a lot easier to fix a phone than it is to fix a car! Try your phone on another car/Bluetooth connection. If it works then your car is having problems with your phone. Delete the Bluetooth connection on your phone and delete the device from your car and reconnect from scratch.

OP, by any chance do you have an iPhone that was updated to OS10?

I just witnessed this same or similar) behavior in a friends vehicle (non-BMW) that started immediately after the Os10 update.

The call answers, but the phone is defaulting to "on phone audio" for incoming calls. Outgoing calls still work on the car audio.

This may be a strange thought.

Mine started doing that and I ended up discovering the volume setting was turned down.

It was set fine for my Iphone 6 but had to be reset on my IPhone 7.

Yeah ios10 doesn't work as well as the other versions. Lots of fun "features". Looks like apple is losing their way.
