jacking car up

jacking points. need to jack her up tomorrow

this is my first bmw so i an wondering hiw i can jack it up without damaging, i see a jack in the boot. bur no jack pads..

i have a trolley jack so ill be using that.

on my previous audi i always used the arms that come off the subframe as it made that multilink setup sit better to work on.

if i do absolutely need jack pads, can i substitute them with something. or can i buy them from somewhere..

thanks in advance

Using a jack without a pad can damage the jack points. I have these and they fit perfectly :

I use one of these too, I used a hole saw to cut the puck to the right size to fit into my trolley jacks saddle.

Use the jack pad as advised above

Another tip jack up the rears first this gives you a bit more clearance when you jack up the front ones later as it takes a while for the car to settle. Otherwise it can be difficult to get the clearance to use the Jack and pad.

May just be me running on ACS springs and not having a low profile Jack though.

If using a trolley jack, you can use the rear diff to jack the back end up.

In a bind, I have used a hard wood block cut to size for the jacking pads.

Don't use the suspension arms as jacking points.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that jacking on the diff was an absolute no-no. Having said that, I know that was the jacking point for my MX5s so it can't be *that* bad.

Jacking the diff is fine, it is a no-no to jack the diff cover. It is in the BMW TIS.

Do we have a center jacking point. I want to put the front up on jack stands.

I see a "bubble" of sorts about 2 feet under the car front the front seems to be on the center line.

if you dont have the puck just cut a piece of wood to fit in the plastic jack point I did that for years on my 5 series before i finally got round to ordering a puck.
