If the 8AT was bland, average or just poor then would agree. However it is amazing and interacts with the engine so well (especially 6 pot). Also once you are popping in and out of 3 figures mph, you really feel how quick the changes are. Also how well does a manual interact with active cruise? Have always been manual previously, however now addicted to this setup. It's just so flexible and handles the power delivery so well. Admittedly with 335d and 330d it's the only option. |

I enjoyed using the regular shifter for manual mode on a 328 loaner i had.
It's good enough IMO But here are my favorite parts about the paddle shifters 1. You could be in eco pro/comfort mode, but decide you really need to pass idiot sketchy driver on adjacent lane. Downshift, and turbo awaaaay! 2. Manual mode is fun on the highway, not so much on crowded city streets. I could again shift with the paddle shifters whenever I need to and it will go back to automatic on its own in a few seconds. |

Not trying to thread jack, however, I have done some research and not sure why I can't seem to find an answer. Am looking at a 328i Sportline for the wife, and it appears to NOT have the 2TB sport auto trans. Is this something that aside from missing the paddle shifters is able to be programmed or coded to achieve the same performance?
I tried searching 2TB coding, programming, etc. Saw a few random posts say it can be, that they are the same trans, etc. But no thread confirming it's been actually done and operational. I guess on that note, can the paddles be retrofitted as well, it appears the shifter lever can be fairly easily?

The paddle shifters are the only reason I would even consider anything over the 6MT. I have driven manual for almost 15 years straight and I feel like with a MY14 335ix I would go for the 8AT with paddles. It is the future, better MPG, faster shifts, handles more power.

That is a serious concern for me. I will be test driving them both before I make any decision, but it is a huge one and has me worried whatever I pick I'll wish I had picked the other...

Probably right. I did. E92 was first AT in 35 years. Paddles were fun at Mosport but boring/useless other than that IMO. Probably won't have another AT until I have too. |
