Mods causing me to run lean?
I just recently installed a Wagner IC and ER Charge Pipe. I have Mppk and exhaust package for the past year. It seems as if I lost a little HP in pulls and my sport displays show me at 300 hp now at full boost. Dispalys used to read 335 hp before mods this weekend. Also, I have an increase in audible blow off sound from the drivers side. Does this mean my engine is running lean and a loss of HP? Does Mppk tune adjust to mods on its own? Thanks.

So my mods might be throwing these display readings off? I guess I will need to find a Dino shop.

You're not making any more power than you were with just the MPPK. None of those mods will free up any power or increase flow rate. Do some real mods. Intake, downpipe, JB4, etc.

Curious as to why you are hearing more blow off.... Maybe your CP is not installed correctly and has a small boost leak...
Because a CP and IC should not increase blow off because they are not making the car make any more boost or anything.

Especially on the drivers side, because the turbo and wastegate are on the passengers side.

Yup, I'm going with improperly installed CP or defective CP

Thanks for the input. Took my car in to do a smoke test and they are not detecting any leaks throughout the system. The German tune shop said no codes are being thrown but that I may be over boosting or that my PPK may not be accommodating for the increase in air from the IC or CP. They think I just get a more powerful tune.

Again, there is no increase in air. Unless the turbo is bringing in more air or making more boost, there is no extra flow in the system. An intercooler doesn't increase flow, it just cools the charge. A charge pipe doesn't increase flow, it just deals with the charge thats already in the motor.
Plus, the MPPK can handle extra flow. Theres a guy here with tons of mods on top of his PPK running fine. |

So its just constantly blowing off boost? Do you have the pneumatic wastegate or electronic?

Trying to get some info on exactly how it works. Thinking its activated by engine vacuum, which would mean the cause of it blowing off would be a lack of vacuum. Trying to verify, but having a hard time getting info on it.

I had read some posts about vacuum leaks and was thinking that may be the case. However, the smoke and pressure test indicated no leaks. Could it be that Vanos issue that some others had where the bolt sheared off in the Vanos system?

Rustyminded, I noticed that you have a afe air scoop as well. Did you notice any additional sounds during 3000 rpm or higher accelerations? Could the load psssssstttttt sound just be the extra air coming into my intake? But, that still wouldn't explain the 30 hp loss on my displays.
Maybe the battery reset will work. Thanks! |
