Why would they be testing a 7? Those are already out on the market. That said, I do agree it looks like a 7, judging by the shape of the tailpipes.

Btw the horizontal reflector or the strip of light on the trunk similar to the old 7 is screwed on to the facade. I thought they did this purposely to give that impression. The size is about the size of a 5.

Been seeing a caravan off BMW's testing all over Malibu/Calabasas the past week. Couple covered up new Z4's as well.

They were probably testing the stop-and-go at 5 mph on the 405.
