Power problem upon start F30 328XI 2013

Hello folks,

I apologize in advance if I missed a smilar thread already in case I missed it.

I am hoping someone can point me to the right direction and not the BMW dealer as they want my kidney just to diagnose the issue .

My problem started over 6 months now.
I didnt think it was an issue as the first time it happened, I simply turned the car off/on and everything worked.

But then the problem started to happen every two weeks, where I would power on the car and it would go to 1500RPM and stop there unable to get more power.

Now I am can basically turn it on the the morning drive it as long as I want, but when I power it off and back on, it will lose power and wont go past 1500 RPM. I have to leave the car to cool down for few hours (3-5hrs) before I can safely turn it back on.

I took it to the BMW dealer but obviously they dont know the problem and they want to diagnose it at 150$/h until they find the issue, so could be 150$ or 2-3k ...

I had another garage reset the errors and he things the problem is coming somehwere in the engine but needs about 10hrs of work to open the whole engine and cannot provide me a 100% guarantee either which is obviously going to cost me another 1-2k of labor only.

My check engine turn on sometimes and problem gets worst meaning I really have to give it few hrs before I can power back on and get past 1500rpm and sometimes the check engine dissapears and allows me to try few times on/off and it manages to boost past 1500rpm and allow me to drive it.

I found multiple people with this issue but they all say its coming from differnt things so am I really stuck with someone having to diagnose it for few hours or did someone experiance this issue and might know the magic potion .

Many thanks!

Honestly you should provide some codes through a diagnostic scan before tossing money at it or wasting time.

To me it sounds like a sensor or something electrical putting it in limp mode, but it's an open book and it could literally be anything.

Generally... reset all codes, drive until problem occurs, check codes. Report back to us and let's see if anyone's got a good idea. Ok?

Buy BimmerCode right now (app store) as well as a Vgate WiFi OBD adapter (on eBay or Amazon).

In a day or two- report back with codes.

You are walking on thin ice in regards to getting bent over and ripped off. Sad but all too common.

Get a clue first and then work with a professional to solve. Thats what I do for non-DIY items.

Get an OBD diagnostic tool, like the Foxwell NT510. You can google the codes that come up and usually find out what the problem is in a few minutes, then after you fix it clear the codes with the same tool.

Thanks everyone for their suggestions.

Here are some codes I got from the last scan that was done by a garage, if anyone can refer me to the next step before I start burning money on this blindly.

Engine
135808 // Valvetronic Actuator, Position Senor short to ground or open circuit
135A08 // Valetronics Actuator, Position sensor signal implausible.
151001 // Ignition Angle adjustment while idle speed, cold start ignition angle early
102002 // Air mass, plausibility air mass too low.

Again, any help or suggestion, thank you in advance.

These two are cause for concern. The other two are not, and could be related to the first two.

Hopefully your Valvetronic motor isnt shitting the bed. Sounds like it is.

Buy a scan tool so you can read and clear codes to see what comes back.

Here is the part number that you need if its bad. 11377603979

Scary thing is that its buried in the cylinder head and wont be cheap to replace.

Dont pay more than $200 USD for the part.

Labor aint going to be cheap.

Keep us posted.

Google each of those, go from there.

seems like problem is coming from valvetronic motor as the car cant even get any gas anymore. I was able to play with the gas upon start up by pressing it 50% so that it gets the extra juice it needs to run but now its barely holding power and I also found online that this is related to the clicking noise when you unlock the car. Searching for a valetronic motor for my bmw 328xi f30 now and once replaced ill let you guys know.
