M sport + front brakes
So car went into stealers today, had the vehicle check and full service.
Not bad at £400 all in inc courtesy car (116d sport manual 3 cylinder thing!) But i mentioned squeaky brakes to them so they said they would check it out and come back to me. They rang me first and said that the cost to replace front discs and pads would be £569. I said i would call back. They then called me back and said sorry precious cost is wrong and as I have the m sport + brakes the new cost is £1028!!!!!!! I nearly crashed the bloody loan car! Has anyone else had a quote like this and if so what did you do to replace them and where did you get them replaced? On the 116d, I was pleasantly surprised. Not slow, within reason, sounds kinda cool like an old 911. Good enough for the wife!!!

No need to change the discs or pads, just put some of this on the back of the discs, it's worked on both my F30's:

Funny thing is I started getting the squeaky brake curse
Stopped over to winter tyres and hey presto they're quiet again. Not complaining

Sounds about right to me. The last time I enquired about discs for blanks the fronts were £490 and the rears £250
So £569 for front discs and pads then another £300 odd for a service seems about right really. Last edited by cesare87; 11-26-2016 at 03:39 AM.. |

They quoted me £1028 for front pads and discs, PLUS £410 for a full service. Surely I could just get away with pads only? |

That's the prices without fitting though, and £300 is what just an oil service costs, but his car needs a full service.

When i had new front discs and pads on the 335d with the Msport + pack It took me a week of negotiating with the stealer to get it down to around £750. They'd lasted 35k miles. (effectively adding £50/month to the cost of running the car!)

Afternoon boys.
More help needed. Changed the pads to pagid pads as per teastons suggestion. Still massively squeaky brakes. Still massively embarrassing. Still massively annoying. I have no idea what to do now. Went to spire BMW in Kentish Town as was driving past and they wanted £150 to do a diagnostic on it which I thought was a liberty. Has anyone got any ideas? I have been really gentle with the new pads and still squeaks. I have also put loads of heat cycles through them and still squeaks. I'm thinking of booking the car in with specialist cars in Luton and basically saying to them I refuse to collect it until they fix the problem. Or is that just a futile sugggestion...... |

Shocked here especially as I have just run a TDV8 RR Sport for just about 60k miles
It's original discs were still good and it still had some life in the second set of pads too Discs and pads in 35k miles |

Bit surprising, but maybe high number of urban miles. My E90 320d was still on its original pads and discs front and rear at 105000 miles, so BMW brakes will last very well in the right circumstances.

I've been told the discs have another set of pads left in them so there is life in them.
I will have to try to apply the disc brake quiet. Bought a bottle so gonna attempt tomorrow. Gulp I'm surprised as they are new pads so I thought the new pads would eliminate the squeak all together. How wrong was I. I'm in it now and just recorded the sound as I'm coming to a stop. It's so so embarrassing and not what I expect from "the ultimate driving machine" |
