BMW Online using Android

I think I've come to the conclusion that this isn't possible with an Android phone

Has anyone actually done this - seen it done ?

I want to use BMW Online on the iDrive (CIC) without a ConnectedDrive subscription and can never get it to connect using my phone, it always times out saying something to the effect that Bluetooth needs to be set up for data (which as far as I can tell it is)

Will give up I think unless anyone can say it can be done

I also will get android as screen mirroring doesn't work with iOS. They make big improvements for android as tested Samsung S7 with my ID5.

BMW online on Android is basically useless. The app itself will not allow you to pair it with a car so you have to go through the web portal. Once you have done that, you can see your car on the app but that is about it. Any attempt to send directions, flash the lights or anything else on the car fails.

Done a little more experimenting

I turn off Bluetooth on my phone then :
If I go ConnectedDrive - Service Status, then Update BMW Services is grey'ed out

Once I re-enable BT on my phone the option then becomes available, I can select this and it comes back after a while saying update successful

Your service says I have BMW Online and Assist Emergency Call

So I conclude from this that the phone is talking OK to the car and can transfer data

However, when trying to start BMW Online it just does nothing, eventually timing out saying I need to 'Activate data services for Bluetooth device'. Surely data services must be OK if I can update successfully ??

What should I expect when selecting BMW Online ?

I've got a 340i with Business Nav. Phone is a HTC M9.
I can stream pretty much any music over bluetooth from the phone to the car.
The default Android Music Player, BBC Radio Player, Amazon Music & Spotify are what I've used so far.

If I'm browsing Facebook then I can get vids on the Phone screen with the sound coming through the car.

Not changed or done anything special. Just worked from day 1.

Really? - my Samsung S5 works fine with all that.

Music streaming over BT with album artwork too.

I'm not sure streaming stuff over Bluetooth has anything to do with BMW Online

Basically I'm wanting to find out what I should get when I select ConnectedDrive, BMW Online from my idrive

All it does at present is to try and do something which eventually times out with a message about data services and Bluetooth, this despite me be able to update the services using the same phone

I have my connecteddrive login details ready, just cannot get to the point where I can log in

Any screenshots of a working system would be helpful
