Hey Tengocity... Do you have HK? If so do you think you could take a pic to show me how they connect?

Thanks!

Mine is coded for M3 too!

I love it even though it makes me drive like a mother f***er....!!

I'll probably code off or disconnect for my cross-Europe drive this year though, the low speed drone is not ideal.

Absolutely, a GC whilst a nice looking car is not a Coupe, maybe 3seriesXL, and for the pedantics amongst us, Def, courtesy of Wikipedia A coupé ( (from the French past participle coupé, of the infinitive couper, to cut) is a closed two-door car body style with a permanently attached fixed roof, that is shorter than a sedan or saloon (British and Irish English) of the same model, and it often has seating for two persons or with a tight-spaced rear seat. The precise definition of the term varies between manufacturers and over time. The term was first applied to 19th-century carriages, where the rear-facing seats had been eliminated, or cut out.

I'd be interested in retrofitting this to a 330d...only if it can be done cheaply and easily. It would just be for fun, and I may disconnect it

is it a simply a "plug in" retrofit?

I don't find it that bad in Comfort mode. HUGE difference the minute you go to Sport or turn DSC off. Agree below 2k when in that mode, it's a bit boomy!

Oh and M3/4 of course.
335i's don't have ASD as far as I was aware. I think it was Pablo who stripped down his boot and the module wasn't there. This would fit in with the sounds my car would make pre-MPE, ie not enough!

Strange. Have you entered your Serial/VIN on the RealOEM website? From reading various threads, looks like the 328i does have ASD which contradicts what's listed on the RealOEM website. Bizarre.

Do you have the ASD module next to the HK amp?

Just had a look under the panel and it doesn't look like I do one large HK unit and thats it. I assume the ASD is to sit on top of the HK amp in the plastic bracket or is it below it.

in ECU list I only get 20 and none are ASD

Real OEM sets that car as ASD being a OCtober 2015 build.

Thought all 335is had ASD but it does not look like its the case weird.

Simple way to tell - disconnect the fuse from your amp/ pull the hk wires.

If it sounds different then there's one there !

I've coded my ASD off today, just to see if the car is any more refined.

Not entirely sure yet but it is much quieter and I like it a lot.

Time will tell if I keep it this way but it will be more pleasant for our European trip this year. (I'm going to code he headlights for Europe this year too).

My post from last year may help if you anyone wants photos.

There is no substitute for a physical check so this afternoon, armed with my toolbox, I decided to find out once and for all if the 335d has ASD.

This is the result...

The parts catalogue shows all ASD units to be located at the rear of the vehicle on the left. This makes sense as this is where the audio amplifier is and the ASD unit would need to be close by to keep the cabling efficient.

So, I removed the plastic tray (it is simple to pull off) to see if it's there. As expected, the amplifier is visible but is under a large black plastic cover. No sign of an ASD control unit though...

With the left-hand boot lining removed it is easy to unbolt and remove the large plastic cover and reveal what is underneath.
What is that on the left? *** humble pie time ***

Let's get a closer look at that... (Note: It was plugged in when I removed the cover, I unplugged it).

To be sure, let's remove it completely and find out exactly what it is...

A WebETK search reveals that it is indeed an ASD control unit, full part number 65129326555 and in service to November 2013 when it was replaced with another ASD.

This matches my build date but why is it listed only as an M135i part? I can't answer that but assume it is the same part as that used in the M135i.

What happens if I unplug it and go for a drive? I'll leave you to judge for yourself.

Thanks for posting. Can I ask if the cable plugs straight from the active sound module into the HK amp?

If so I think I'll give BMW parts a call to price it up.

My understanding is that the ASD module is completely independent of the audio system. It simply uses whatever speakers are present to overlay the augmentation so is an amplifier itself.

Therefore, it is part of the loom rather than an extension to the HK amp.

Hope this helps.

There's a thread on here where someone did a complete retrofit - search for 'Active Sound Design (ASD) Retrofit'.

You need a connector (third guy got one from a scrap yard) and make up the harness, at least some of which connects to the head unit.

I think Tengocity just disconnected his ASD cable so it must be independent of the amp, otherwise he's been without music for a year!

I have seen it but wasn't impressed with the detail. He skipped most of wiring parts.

I was thinking it could be connected as a piggyback to the HK amp
