Better check with your dealer if you have a 335 on order!
Late last week I pulled the trigger and compromised for the 8spd sport trans instead of the 6 speed manual as it had been over a month since placing the order and still it wasn't on the production line... I made the right choice!
BMW released friday that any car that is not already in production, as in it could be a code 046 or 112(i think its 112, maybe 120 or something, pre production prep) and it will still be held an additional month to two months as the factory has shut down... Thankfully I finalized my dealer swap before the announcement so I'm still going to pick mine up this week! So go and make sure BMWNA didn't pull the rug out from under you! *Don't shoot the messenger!

So are you saying there is a pause on manual transmissions or a pause all together - they are supposed to start working on 2013 models in July so perhaps they have enough orders to carry through the end of the 2012 model year?

The factory has stopped to add other lines and overhaul things from the E90 to F30 platform for the coupes and convertibles. So its not just manuals, just the 3series in general. I would imagine that this is now the cut off for the 2012/2013 model year but if you have money on an ordered 3series I would check to make sure its going to be a 2012 and not waiting until a 2013.

I ordered mine two weeks ago and don't have a production number yet. I got an email from my CA Friday telling me that they didn't get any allocations this month. I'm guessing this is why. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, my dealer said the same thing that they're not getting any allocations until the end of may? So does that mean cars ordered in May will be 2013's?

My CA told me a week ago 2013 orders will be avaliable end of may so most likely they are talking about the new MY 2013 allocations.

Hi guys, new to the forum and new to the BMW world, really excited to get my new 335I.
I have a quick question related to this post, seeing that they are shutting down will this affect my order? I just got an production # on Thursday May 3. Any info would help. |

You should have been given a production slot (week #) from your dealer.

Nope, I havent been given that, just a production number that I was able to put in and track on bmwusa.... It still says my order's been received and in process, but no week slot number.... oh well, guess I'll be waiting the long agonizing way, I love the MT, I think it's worth the wait. Thanks for the 411 though.

So is this verified? It seems unlikely that the factory is shut down...there are still 2012s to build and we are two months from the changeover to 2013.

Besides, why would the current F30 lines have to be shut down to change the E92 production lines for the new F31? |

I ordered mine a couple weeks ago. I am in Germany, but ordering a US model. This is a portion of the reply I received by email:
Your new BMW has been allocated a factory production slot during the month of May, 2012. I wouldn't mind waiting a few weeks to get a 2013. As it stands now, I am set for delivery on 11 June here about 5 hours from the factory. I wonder what will happen...

The plants running E90 machines are what, almost a decade old now? I would imagine that the plant needs an overhaul for the new F30 platforms (wagons, convertibles and coupes) and so it make sense to change all the cars over to the 2013 model at the same time, right? from my dealer and the NE rep for BMW: The German factory will have allocations open the end of this month and the SA plant will follow in early June. And again, you don't have to believe me but since there are no allocations to be had in May it would seem I'm right in some capacity. Plus the regional reps usually are in the 'circle of trust' and get pretty accurate information. >>>as for the production numbers, if you are not currently IN PRODUCTION on the BMWNA site than you are probably not getting the car until mid to late July or August.

Ouch. This isn't good news. I've had my 2012 335i on order since April 1st and still do not have a production number. My dealer has had a hard time getting an allocation (or so they tell me).
Disappointing, to say the least. Instead of having my car in May/June as I was led to believe, it looks like it will be more like July/August. -FD

Are they likely to tweak power\torque\economy? Or perhaps include a few more bits and pieces as standard? Bodywork changes? Loosen up some of the restrictions on lines? Or just put the price up a bit?

2013 is not an LCI update for the 3er, the F30 just came out in 2012. Aside from availability of the M Sport package and the F31, there will be no significant changes to the F30 for MY13.
