OBD unlock and bootmod3

OBD unlock is in testing and we'll have more details to share soon. Short answer is anyone looking to go the OBD unlock route instead of bench flash will be able to do so at home or at any of our supporting dealer locations.

Unlocking over OBD does not perform a full readout like unlocking on bench does. Currently the only way to fully restore any given DME back to full stock software including flash counters is still via open/bench flash and for that reason we'll be offering both options still to end users depending on their needs.

There are a few more cool features on the horizon very soon but we felt this one needed to be announced first. Everyone's doing it!

@proTUNING Freaks so if you take a readout over obd using bootmod3 app from a DME that was bench unlocked by PTF and has Bootmod3 will it not be a full readout?

Or putting it another way if you have a bench unlocked DME that has the Bootmod3 loader will a readout taken using the obd cable and app be a full one?

proTUNING Freaks So as you may be aware, I still am encountering a DME tamper code. Would it be possible for me to flash the DME back to stock with something like ISTA and re-do the unlock via the new OBD method? Would there be some other options we could use with this new method to resolve the DME tamper code?

Nope, as PTF said, removing the DME is still the best way, you still need to remove the DME for full stock flash if you need to revert to stock and reset counters. As they quote below.

If anything, i see this as a great value for those to easily mask off some codes for those who are running catless / deleted other components that cause codes. Assuming that is one of hte capabilities of this non-DME removal version of flashing.

Sub'd!
This is very exciting news! Ever since the passive code delete was removed from jb4 I have been hoping for obd flash tuning more and more. Also the fact that all of the bm3 vs jb4 threads out there seem to indicate a smoother and more consistent power delivery with bm3, I like the bump in power with my jb4 but it seems buggy to me (misfires/stumbles sometimes, slingshot style power delivery).

Really hoping you guys will be able to put together an obd flash tune for us pwg guys that includes the extra burble setting!!!

Any idea what type of timelines you are working with for releasing something also approximate price ranges?

Thanks!

@proTUNING Freaks still eager to understand what the differences are between a read out taken from a DME that's already running bootmod3 and a bench taken readout?

Hey guys, really sorry for lack of updates here as most of our staff is away until Jan. 2nd and we're trying our best given the holidays.

BM3 OBD unlock is coming very soon. While away on non-stop 15 hour flights we've managed to kill lots of time by expanding our DME Read feature that's part of the Diagnostics screen. It hasn't yet been pushed out as we don't want to break something unexpectedly until we're fully staffed again come week of Jan. 2nd. If you've followed our updates through the initial BM3 release back in late 2015 early 2016 you'd know that given how most of this work reverse engineering, sometimes days go by without making much progress, and then, in just a few hours or even a few minutes at times, a glimpse of a solution shows itself which ends up unfolding itself into a new solution/feature or even a change to the approach on how something is done so it could be improved upon.

Current tools/cables released that have OBD unlock support already such as Magic Motorsports, Frieling (many vendors that announced OBD unlock on this forum use this tool provider), CMD, can produce full 4MB readout files that can be used to activate and run with BM3. BM3's DME read feature that has been expanded recently will provide those already unlocked by some tuner out there (regardless of method) an easy way to activate without pulling the DME again as well which will make it super easy to get on board with it, get custom tuned and use anything in BM3 you'd like.

More to follow very soon...

I have a question. Is it possible to write my own modified 4MB file bin with BM3 in case I don't need any of BM3 tunes/editors etc, just need obd writing ability. Or should I wait for MHD for F series?

So I'm assuming that special OBD adapter is needed, the one that costs 1900 euros at magicmotorsports?

So either the end consumer buys that adapter, or a tuning shop buys one...but flashing the f-series without that adapter isn't possible?
