microfiber towel will do just that same. The key is to dislodge as must dust from your tool of choice after each swipe.

I keep some chemical guys quick detailer and a microfiber in the trunk. Boston pollen is booger green and shows up really nicely on BSM.

I don't park under trees, ever, because birds will ruin your day, and sap will keep your day ruined. Takes about 15 to 30m to introduce a fresh coat of pollen after any cleaning this time of year.

Not sure if serious?

Welcome to the world of owning a black car. PLUS--with all the pollen this spring, parking under a tree isn't helping your case.

Not true. The duster used static electricity to pull up the dirt.

What do you do when the duster has dust on it? Isn't it just putting it back on the car? I must be doing something wrong.

It pulls it right off. The dustier it gets the better it works. I used to have a mineral grey 435, and the results were awesome.

Thesame people who use a duster on their cars are probably the same ones who let a dealership wash them, too. You're rubbing dry dust back and forth on your paint.

There are plenty of good youtubes on how to properly care for a black car...hell, any car for that matter. Some of the replies here make me cringe.

Do NOT use a duster. It will scratch your car.

Anytime you're physically touching your paint on a visibly dusty car without proper lubrication, you will scratch your paint.

If you car is perfectly clean and just covered with pollen a duster is totally fine - assuming it's a decent duster. Washing and drying cars can cause scratches too.

You're dragging dust which is dirt across your paint with zero lubrication. You're scratching it.

washing and drying the car properly, and washing/drying it are two completely different things.

I guess we just disagree

Cheers !

I really like this Duster.... the handle telescopes just enough to help out getting the center of the roof etc... My car gets a fine coat of dust just sitting in the apartment parking garage... haven't washed the car in a while since getting the duster and only driving on nice days... wheels I just get a micro-rag and spray the rag only with a little spray wax and wipe... it's machine washable and I do roll it as I'm wiping and then shake after each wipe... works good... no scratches that I can see at all angles of light..

P.s. I used optimum spray wax which has carnauba wax in it... helps gives it that micro protection from the dust scratches

Any black cars shows dust quickly. The dusters work well after you follow the instructions and let them sit or you will get some wax on the car.

3 yrs later, my car hasn't been fully waxed; I've used Quik Detailer and that's it. It helps that the car is almost 24/7 in the garage or in a parking structure. no swirls/fine scratches to deal with ...although can't avoid rock debris all the time.

Agree, silver hides the dust best of all. As a colleague of mine used to say, "silver is serviceable". Darker colors are the worst. White in preference to black for lower maintenance any time.

A proper car wax might help a lot of that dust just fall off.

Agreed. You should avoid even touching black cars unless they are covered in soap! Every scratch shows so easily. Dusters are the worse because there is zero lubrication and they gather dust. That means old dust that's on the duster is now also scratching the paint. Just wash and wax the car and forget it until it's time to wash again.

All colours get dusty, black just shows dust and dirt more than any other colour. Get a good ceramic coating applied such as Opti-Coat and less dust will stick to the paint!

You could always carry a battery-powered leaf blower in the trunk (or the "boot," for our British friends).

Every time I see the title to this thread I feel like I've stumbled upon an actual unicorn ...the only human being who didn't know that black is the hardest color to keep looking good. Your innocence is refreshing.

Keeping any black car looking great is a labor of love but well worth the work for the short time it looks perfect.

Silver cars look cleanest the longest. But in terms of looks, a clean BSM BMW has it. My car gets parked in the driveway and in an underground parking garage when I'm at work. It looks dirty probably 85% of the time. I had to get over that real quick.

I've owned 2 black cars in my life. I agree: looks so good, but impossible to keep clean. Silver was the easiest, white has some "pop" while still easy to maintain. It's too bad white is so common. Grigio Telestro is top of my list for my next bimmer.

Mineral gray is a close second... I wanted mineral white but in 2014 it wasn't available with the M-Sport package. I do park under the trees at work because I'd rather wash bird shit and such off every day than have my car get roasted in the Georgia sun and be 150F inside when I go home, where it's always garaged.
