LED Bulb Replacement Help: Driver's Side Works, Passenger Side Doesn't

Hi All,

I installed four LED bulbs into my '16 LCI F30 that has stock halogen. Finally, I found a bulb that fit with the heat sync in such a small location. I was planning on coding all of the slots to LED and turning off the warm/cold testing after installation.

Here's the issue: three bulbs work (both high beams and the driver's side low beam) but the passenger side low beam does not. I tried three different LED bulbs (confirmed one of the bulbs worked fine on the driver's side) in this slot and none of them turned on. If I put a halogen back in there, it works fine.

Has anyone come across this before? Any theories as to why one side would work perfectly fine and the other not at all (but only when an LED bulb is in the socket?).

Thanks!

What lights did you go with? I've also got an LCI with halogens and can't find a bulb that fits with the little clip on the heat sync.

These. They look pretty good! Except, of course, the non-working side.

Update: Just received my coding device. I changed the LED lights to be marked as LED and coded out the temperature tests. Malfunction error went away. Still haven't put the passenger side LED headlight in the socket (it takes me forever to get in and out of there). Can anyone venture a guess as to whether this would actually make any difference?

Coding out the cold and warm checks will stop iDrive warnings and lamp flashing when the lights are turned off but shouldn't make any difference otherwise.

The warnings are gone and the flickering is gone. The only remaining issue is the right low beam. No bulb (except halogen) will light up in that socket. The current is running fine, every other socket for a bulb works fine, I just can't figure this out for the life of me. Does anyone here know if there is ANYTHING different between these two headlight outlets? I'm in that position where I'm completely stuck.

Could just be a bad headlight. You could try it in the other socket.

Or try reversing the plug.

Nah, tried it with three different bulbs, all of which worked in the other sockets.

And yes, turned it around to switch polarity. Neither worked.

Man, I actually recall having the same issue on the pass side. I remember redoing everything for the passenger side in BimmerCode and it eventually worked. I would retrace your steps in BimmerCode if it works in other outlets.

Had a parking light do the same thing.
After recoding from backup it worked again.
