Why do N55s fail?

That is a very poorly maintained engine! Actually- Gross. I find the N55 to be very reliable. If you have the common sense to do the modicum of preventive maintenance. My current N55 is in a 2013 F30 and is doing quite well, thank you, at 208,450 miles. Oil and filter every 7500 miles. Only engine related off normal service was a valve cover at 74, 530 (CCV) and OFHG at 47, 400.

N55 can easily last 300k+ mi with proper maintenance. Most of them die because of oil starvation, poor maintenance.
