From Mk6 GTI to 328i xDrive M Sport?

Hi All -

I have been driving a 2011 Mk6 GTI DSG for about 3 years. It has the APR Stage 2 software along with an intake and turboback exhaust.

Great car, and I love love love it, but I started a new job recently and I'm in my car for 2+ hours a day typically commuting.

As the GTI is a base model it has Sirius, heated seats, and that's about it. I'd really like a more comfortable car with AWD that gets good mileage while still retaining some of the sportiness of the GTI (which has about 275hp/300tq at the moment.)

I recently drove a 328i M Sport with *most* options except the DHP and driver assistant packages.

I think I've negotiated a nice deal (right about at invoice minus $1250 holiday cash) and I'm getting a fair price for my GTI.

I just wanted to get some input from those of you that have made similar moves - is the (large!) jump in price worth it to get into an F30? I've previously owned an e90 335xi, so I'm not entirely new to the BMW world, but I don't have too much experience with this generation. I definitely like what I see so far.

Thanks!

I came from a 2011 stage 2 autobahn GTI loaded. I had also changed jobs and was looking for a bit more of a grown-up refined vehicle. I do not have sport package so my suspension is a bit soft but it works well for all the highway driving I do.

honestly I think coming from a GTI you are making a great upgrade.

Okay thanks, that's the kind of feedback I was looking for.

Love the GTI but maybe it's time to part ways...

I would either build your own with DHP or add H&R sport springs. The stock suspension will leave the most to be desired compared to you E90 and gti

Ok thanks I'll have to see how it feels. I actually like having a little bit of ground clearance - we get some occasional snow drifts up here and the GTI is a tad low at times.

My car on Sports is not too low for snow. But we certainly get a bit less than upstate NY. The Sports give a mild drop, still able to fit a couple fingers in between each wheel gap.
