Emperor's New Clothes

We went to see the new musical, Hamilton, at the weekend. Perhaps I had built it up too much in my mind as the hype has been tremendous and the US reviews fantastic. Anyway, it was a bit of a let down, although I suspect I'm not the right demographic for a rap/ hip hop musical based on one of the founding fathers of the United States...

The audience were going mad, but I couldn't help think of the story of the Emperor's new clothes. Just thinking about this theme there are a few other things that spring to mind:

- BMW F80/82 M3/4 (sorry just don't get it - runs to take cover)
- Gordon Ramsey restaurants
- the latest Star Wars films

Anyone have any more examples?

Mrs Tengocity, the good lady her indoors, was very keen to see this when we were in NY in September, but the tickets were about $300 each!

So we decided that we would wait till it came here. Can't say I'm fussed myself!

I really like Harry Potter, but the £100+ for tickets for the play was more than enough for me, so can't imagine I'll be rushing to see Hamilton then.

1) The F80/82 M3/M4 have had plenty criticisms as far as I've seen, with only later CP versions getting great reviews.
2) I went to one, and didn't see the fuss myself. It was just a.n.other nice, but overpriced, restaurant
3) It was very enjoyable, as movies go... still just a movie though!

Security for the London performance was very tight - you had to bring the email, your ID, the card you paid with, before they gave you the ticket. Reselling the London tickets for overs would be very difficult.

Re the M3/ M4, they just seem to me to be neither fish nor foul. Haven't driven a CP, but there's lots of highly priced non CP's out there. Would genuinely prefer a 340i with sorted suspension.

Seems this is happening more and more these days - even Peter Kay tickets were footnoted with this - ID and car needed to gain access. About time.

They are different cars, if you don't appreciate the difference then it's not the car for you. This is life in general though right?

I wouldn't! The front end of the M3 is sooooo much better than any of the standard cars. And the performance is in a different world.

Of course. Everyone's opinion is valid. Would be boring if we all thought the same - hence the thread.

I agree, but I also take Postcab's point about hype since I tried the original F80 M3 and didn't like it!

I've watched the entire 5 seasons, twice.

Te be honest, I'm ready to watch it all again now.

Although I loved it, I completely understand. Apart from the first season, they made the others far too long. The 2nd - 5th just chug along slowly for the first 8 episodes and then it all starts to speed up and you really want to watch the last few back to back.

David Bowie - I just never liked any of his songs.

Yes. Just like the Beatles - a couple of ok songs, but that’s about it.
