A little disappointed in my 2013 328

Hi all,

I just picked up a 2013 328 sport with Tech, Luxury, Convenience packages and heated seats. It is a nice enough car, but not the most satisfying drive.

Some of the dissatisfaction come from having a 2011 335 sport also. Despite what the specs say, that car is way faster and pulls like a freight train. The 328 has good power, but feel like a much bigger/heavier car. The 328 seems more stable than the 335 which seems like it want to jump into oncoming traffic or the next lane unless you really concentrate on keeping the car between the lines.

So has anyone else felt a little disappointed in their 328?

Thanks,

Jerry

And why didn't you get a 335? Did you bother test driving before you bought? I test drove a 335, and a 328, decided the 328 was more than sufficient and went with it, and I'm perfectly satisfied with my 328. Are you saying you miss your car trying to jump into oncoming traffic and killing you?

That's why I always tell people get what you want the first time so you don't regret after the honeymoon phase ends

you gotta try before you buy. extended test drives in different situations are a must to get the real character of the car beyond the numbers. Personally I like the N55 so I stuck with what I know and got a 335i, and am happy.

Maybe I forgot what the specs said but does it really say the 2013 328i is faster than a 2011 335i?

It has never been said a n20 328i is faster than a 2011 335i. It has the same engine as the current 335i just different tranny with sport auto. N55 is more powerful.

The OP seemed to claim so ("Despite what the specs say...") unless I misunderstood.

Why are we comparing the base 328 in terms of power to the 335?

In 2011, did you drive a 328 before deciding on the 335?

Why don't you slap a tune on the 328i? That's what I plan on doing when mine comes in next month. 335i is great but a lot more $.

A lot more money? I disagree. The 335i is more expensive than a 328i . An S4 is A LOT more money than an A4.

A few people who bought the F30 feels the same way you do. One got to do their homework before buying a car, the new 3 series is more like the old 5 series than the old 3 series. If you want something as sporty as your E90, you need to buy a 1 series.

Did you not test drive both before purchasing? I did and I bought the 335 because I knew I could not live with a 328.

I agree. The difference between the two is not that large. When I was going to buy the difference worked out to less than 2K for equally equiped cars (335 has some standard features that are addons on the 328)

I dont know a lot of people that were happy downsizing in performance, moving up would have been a much better idea. IMO you should have saved $ for a couple more years and bought a M4. You are at what, 50k for your car now? You could easily have afforded 70k if you waited for a 2015 M4.

Agree with that. I have a E60 535i, and didn't even bother test driving the 328 when it was time to buy. I knew I needed the same or more power, so I went with the 335 until the M gets here.

From what I can understand, you´re not so much complaining bout the power but rather its the F30 body/weight/feel/handling that you ain´t satisfied with. Well, the 328 is more nimble than the 335 and handles better (F30s). So what ever advice you get from the other ones in here sayin´you should have gotten the 335i, forget about it. Unless it´s the power you´re after, you can´t do better with the 335i. (Prayin to God I don´t start a damn 328vs335 discussion now.......)

And what is with the comparison with S4 vs A4? S4 is a specific model of the A4, which is the family name. That´s equivalent to M3 vs F30 (and before anyone gets anal about it, yes the RS4 is the M3 competitor...)

In my opinion, it's another case of buying the wrong car and or unrealistic expectations.

If I was replacing an E90, I would replace it with the F30 that mirrors what I had.

You chose an E90 335 for a reason. You were suddenly expecting the BASE engine 3 series to satisfy you over the larger more powerful engine, to me an unrealistic expectation.

If you had gone from a 328 E90 to the F30, you would be less likely to be disappointed and if you were, at least your model specific expectations would be in line.

A $100 bill is more money than a $20 bill by the way :P

it amazes me how people can go spend 40k+ on a car and not even bother to test drive it. Ive test driven many cars and each and everytime i knew i would or wouldnt be satisfied if i bought it. The only dissatisfaction I get is when rattles and little gremlins start to appear on the car I bought and weren't there on my test drives.
