M-Sport cannot be ordered with Active Cruise Control?

There's a footnote in the 2013 f30 ordering guide saying that M-Sport can't be ordered with Active Cruise Control. "5DF cannot be ordered with ZMM".

Someone say it ain't so!

Yeah I saw that too... one of the reasons I went with the regular sport line vs M-Sport.

There isn't any room for it in the bumper.

There was the same restriction for the E9x models. My theory is that anyone who orders an M Sport is actually interested in driving the car, not having the car driven for them.

I suppose, but until the M Sport package includes a workaround for LA traffic it would have been nice to have for those gridlock moments. But at least I can avoid the self torture in trying to justify $2400 for a feature I desire but do not need.

If ordered with comfort package here it is quite cheap. Since I get 6WA, which I wanted anyway, I am paying less than USD 900 incl VAT extra for the ACC s&g.

(SCC S&G comes with 6WA included)

It may be US specific, cos there's no limitation apart from auto gearbox if u want ACC in Europe.

I'm betting bimmerjph was right with his bumper answer.. the thing is, the radar module that is used for this function is located behind the bumper and the M-Sport is open at that location.

Check out this picture thread. It shows a sport line with the little black box on the outside of the bumper and a estoril blue msport with the box in the grill. But there is nothing weird in this since it is exactly what the configurator showed when I built my car I have ordered.

Hmm.. it's possible it is indeed the radar, at the other hand I have to say I think it's a bit odd to have it there.. What would stop anyone from getting a screwdriver and strip that thing from the car? I always thought it would be a bit less visible.

One thing I noticed is that one of the other cars (non M-Sport) in that same thread has the same box underneath. Couldn't it be something that registers test results for them instead?

Btw, this seems to be the part: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...32&hg=65&fg=05 but when I look at it, it seems to me it is made to fit behind something with the bracket over the radar on the back.

But it can't be the case seeing as european buyers of the M-Sport can happily add this option?

I don't think its a technical issue related to the bumper - I think its a market decision taken by BMW.

For real? Wow then it really cannot be the bumper, no. Odd they would allow Europe to get it but not the US.. please don't tell me it's for similar reasons as the fog lights that they wont get here..

Yup. As mentioned earlier, all u need to spec is the autobox and then it will allow you to spec ACC.

Maybe the profile of M-Sport buyer in the USA is different to us here in the UK?

More often than not, M-Sport is the default choice of line here regardless of how you drive.

It's maybe to do with homologation reasons. Maybe the M-sport front bumper if fitted with ACC radar can't pass US regs.

I know I'm asking for some retribution here, but is this feature really that useful in daily driving?

As the others are saying, no problem at all. Here is a picture from the configurator that shows you the final product.
