just like the e90 version. cool!
Yes I did that as well and I took a plastic tie strap to secure the plug from hanging down. I agree, nice to have full exhaust note even in comfort mode!

I have not looked at a 320i but I doubt that you would have a flap being that there is a single pipe.

Heyy guys!
So if 320i has no flap, we don't need to make
Any changes like that right? Just the adapter from remus,
I was wondering, can I make one? Anyone know what is the lenght?
and the diameter? How do I put the adapter on the exhaust? Does it fit?
like just plugged?

Thanks a lot!!

Hi All,

I like this simple mod and its effect on the sound of the exhaust. However, I keep wondering whether this has any adverse effect on the engine in the long run. I'm sure the flap is not there only to control the sound of the exhaust at low and high RPMs, but mainly to regulate the pressure and performance. This level of technicality is way beyond of my understandings, so if anyone who is more knowledgable on this would share his opinion, that would be highly appreciated by many of us I think. At least by me for sure... :-)

I ran this mod for 5 years on my 335i and nothing adverse happened.

Did anyone find a nice way to protect the cable so dirt/water doesn't get inside? I'm thinking just put tape over the opening and zip tie it somewhere?

Did this on my E92 ages ago, everytime I went for service, they would plug it back in and tell me my car had a code for an unplugged exhaust and plug it back in for me. Thats it. So I'd leave the dealer, pull into the parking lot down the street, unplug it again and be on my merry....

Doin it to my F30 today before headin to work...

It seems like most of the posters have 335i models. Does this unplug modification work for the F30 328i models as well?

Ok wait, do you unplug it while the car is off? Or do you unplug it while the car is cold starting. Maybe I let my car warm up too much, but I can't get the flap to open! I tried starting the car and unplugging it, but i'm still feeling flow from one side. Then I turned the car off, plugged it back in, started the car, and still flow from one side??

I unplugged it while the car was off first thing I'm the morning. Both pipes are active. As for the electric plug, I electric taped the top of the male end, fitted it back in the female connector about half way through(it fits in snugly) and secured the male and female exterior with more electric tape. Works perfectly and full exhaust note all the time.

I'd like to confirm 2 things please:

1. Based on this thread, it seems like this plug is under the car, instead of in the rear driver brake light space like the e90. Correct?

2. On the E90, when installing performance exhaust this was disabled. Is this still the case for the F30?

Thanks

So when you put the car in sport mode, the exhaust valve is opened?

"To force the exhaust flap open for a louder exhaust note. Stand outside your car while somebody starts it - you'll hear it loud at first, then a clang as the flat closes and the exhaust'll be much quieter. The noise doesn't seem to make it into the cabin much, though."

I have the MPE. The flap is closed on cold start and the exhaust is louder. After a minute or so the flap opens.. I watched it do this with a flash light. This seems to be the opposite of what the person in the second quote and everyone else is describing. Is the MPE different or are you all confusing the exhaust getting quiet due to the valve closing when it is actually opening? Regarding the first quote, what do you mean the MPE has the flap enabled? Are you saying that it is always opened after the exhaust warms up?

Flap enabled - means that it still utilizes the exhaust flap feature. I was under the impression that e90s with MPE did not have the actuator enabled.

I'm saying that it starts open, then closes up. I think this is how it is designed. Haven't done anything with the flashlight.

I have been wondering this as well...could there be any performance benefit to having the valve open and close?

About to do this tomorrow morning on my F30 335i with MPE.

And it is very annoying on a cold start to have only one pipe active before a few minutes the second one opens up.

So even with the MPE you unplug the control with the engine off just as with the stock exhaust?
