I thought of that and plenty others have stated it bu that seems to be the consensus when it comes to why BMW would do such a thing. Seems like this has been an issue for a few years now and maybe BMW just happens to be the first one to do something about it? To get that reputation?

I just don't think it's to save their buyers money once they get into an accident, for the most part BMW likely doesn't care about parts you have to pay that they do not cover in their warranty such as a hood being damaged in an accident.

That's because both Audi and Mercedes have more rounded front bumpers that both scored the maximum number of points for bumper pedestrian safety.

I like the hood gap. As for the other panel canyons on my car that is another story. The huge gap on the trunk is terrible
