Not surprised at all. I seem to remember being told that the engine was capable of close to 900Nm of torque. There's a reason why Alpine, ACS and Hartge limit to around same amount of 700Nm - warrantying the gearbox and drivetrain!

The focus also seems to be a weak gearbox which isn't proven with that amount of torque and is limited to 700NM. The car will not last long!

830nm in a road going car with normal brakes, chassis, suspension and tyres = bonkers, pointless and a spectacular accident in the making in equal measures.

Yes I'm sure it does, but it's hard enough getting the standard torque down let alone a crazy amount like that, the traction control would be constantly cutting power, there is such a thing as too much torque

Historically people have been amazed how much stock BMW drivetrain can take... let's hope that trend continues and just because you have ridiculous amounts of power available does not mean you have to use it on every corner and every street light.

Finally! A solution to the 335d's real problem. A lack of torque! No longer will we be left at the lights by a 1.0 Saxo.
Could you imagine this with standard suspension and breaks? Christ!

That's a disappointment. I was wondering what 830 nanometres meant for a BMW.

Not sure how the brakes are an issue? It's no heavier than before and top speed is no higher, so there shouldn't be any major issues.
Traction could be an issue, less so on a xdrive though. I'd be more concerned about prematurely ending the life of my gearbox!

The other bit is when does the torque / power kick in.
That pedal has the same range of movement no matter how many nm's you give it. So gearbox would need tweaked a bit as well. |

Why would a manufacturer put a gearbox in that would take say 1000NM, with the extra cost, weight, etc., when it's not necessary? Weak my bum! Good luck to those who tune their engines then wonder why they have broken their £5K gearbox and/or final transmission given the four wheel drive element when there's no where for the traction to really go with spinning the [rear] tyres. It depends how you drive it. If you drive it reasonably sensibly then it shouldnt be a problem ... but.... with more power/torque, the speed piles on quicker so it needs to be killed quicker IMO.
For the same reason, you have more powerful brakes in the 335d than a 320d would. Yes, I know the 335d weighs more than a 320d, but I bet it stops a lot quicker as it has more powerful brakes to match the performance.
