Standard 2.8i (2014) - I want to rotate my tyres, quick query
Hi there
Having an MOT Test tomorrow (UK vehicle check) - while they got it lifted up, I will ask them to rotate the tyres [BMW Approved RF's] - as I've put 15k+ miles on them since buying the car. Question 1: The sensors for Tyre Pressure monitoring etc - i assume each tyre must be correctly re-connected to the sensor in the new position? Just checking because this garage may need specific guidance Q 2: Assuming they rotate the tyres and re-connect tyre sensors properly, is there a follow-up task / setting i should reset afterwards (using the OBC) to let the car know the tyres were rotated? Q 3 The tyres are not badly worn, and were previously aligned correctly. I assume this garage can balance the wheels correctly after rotation. However i am unwilling to spend circa £100 on new wheel alignment. Is wheel alignment necessary after a simple rotation, or is it ok to wait until front or back set is replaced to perform a new realignment? Sorry for my long form of writing i don't know how to be brief, sadly. Thanks in advance |

After rotating the tires re-calibrate the TPMS in iDrive. It's in your manual. There's no need to balance the tires nor do an alignment after rotation. No need to involve a garage at all, it's a very basic operation. Tires should be replaced as sets of four. One of the reasons for rotating is so they'll wear at the same rate. 15k miles is far too long to go before rotating tires. 5k is advised.

Thanks for that reply Billfitz... just what I was hoping.
Not easy avoiding involving a garage though. Point taken about the interval but the tyres have a decent amount of tread on em and even wear patterns. |
