I have had my 320i for a few days now. After having both a E46 and E91 diesel, I am really pleased with the 320i. The acceleration on low RPMs is very good, more than enough torque for me. Haven't tried the car on high RPMs yet, since I have to break in the car first.

That reflects exactly the different characteristics between a 20d & a 20i. The 20i is faster using kickdown cos the petrol engine has wider power band & stronger top end. On the other hand if u drive a manual & don't like to change down for overtaking, the 20d will be faster cos it has higher peak torque, providing u've not let the revs drop too low.
