Interesting that folding rear seats is an option in SA.

I also would like to see some additional buttons on the steering wheel of the Jaguar.

Jaguar still builds cars? I thought they stopped some time in the 60s.

Folding rear seats were optional on U.S. 3ers until about three years ago.

XE has a nicer push to start button.

I do not like touch screen operations in a car, I love the fact BMW has buttons and knobs!

I haven't tried the Jags system but it doesn't look as fluid, and your right it's so much easier to use the knob, especially with the touch sensor on top of the knob.

It's the absolute worst idea ever. You have to look at the screen every time you want to do something vs. manipulating buttons or switches by feel in your peripheral vision.

Interesting that in SA, a well-appointed 340i is the value player, especially since the base XE 35t will undercut the 340i by around $4k in the US.

Nevertheless, did anyone else catch that nearly 1-second lag on the Jag infotainment screen when first navigating from one page to the next? That's the kind of annoyance that would infuriate me over time. And, honestly, the rest of that interior seemed pretty drab and dull to me.

I had it on a Ford Fusion Titanium rental, it was a nightmare. When I was shopping around I looked at the ATS, saw all the touch screen stuff and walked away.

I have observed that Bmw seems to know the sweet spot:

C class and S4/5, very luxurious interior at the expense of weight. Luxurious interior makes it more pricy. All people care about at this level is a quick car with good handling. The success of Bmw is testament to this ( interior is not a deal breaker)

Jaguars XE. Small luxurious interior, that luxury is taking its toll on weight and pricing again as with the above 2. Handles well but handling doesn't seem to be what people prioritize. We have seen how well the ATS and IS350 handle. We have been told they are the cream of the crop, alas they are irrelevant to this day.

The issue is people are looking for balance. A car that's good or as good at everything at an attractive price and descent weight (around 3500). It seems Bmw got the formula right and this shows every month when we look at those sales numbers.

Picking up our F36 soon, when lease is up we will likely look at the Jag and even the Alpha. Maybe the Benz will not look so...angular and the Lexus will not have a gaping maw of a front end. BMW set the bar but others are in hot pursuit.

This will be our ninth car and third luxury car, coming off an F30. First time ever repeating a make. But BMW service (at least here) stinks in comparison to Lexus and those other companies are really pushing hard. It will be interesting. Maybe I will get a promotion and change the playing field even more

Funny guys are talking touchscreens and buttons in response to such a video. I guess BMW is appealing to correct customer group with current gen 3 series then.

BTW, I did test drive a XE 3.0T at a Jaguar dealer. Compared to 335i (didnt hand on a 340i yet), XES definitely pulls stronger, sounds better and appears sportier. I'd take it over F30 any day of the week.

Don't get me wrong. I was simply noting that, despite Jaguar's claim that they've significantly improved their telematics, it still seemed like a clunky system. This isn't the only thing that matters, of course, but buyers in this price range expect a certain level of quality and refinement. Otherwise we'd all be driving WRX's.

I'm definitely impressed overall with the XE from what I've read, and competition is always a good thing. I don't believe Jaguar will take a huge bite out of this segment, but even a modest dent in the market share would be a big deal for Jag.

I'm waiting for this car to show up in the US, but I don't believe they will be able to match the lease deals on the 3 series because the resale value / residuals won't be comparable. For that reason, it may not be a practical option regardless of how good the car is.
And buying a Jag is the last thing I'd do.

Somehow if they decide to take the hit and offer great lease deals to resurrect the brand (which wouldn't be a bad idea IMO), I might spring for a lease. It's fairly more exclusive that BMWs.

Considering the issues car companies are having with the technology and the fact that you have to encounter it every single time you drive the car then I would say it can be a valid concern to a buyer. Is it as important as performance and such? I guess that is up to the person shopping around. On a nice curvy road how the car drives is one thing, stuck in traffic to and from work everyday you don't get to experience that so much, so you focus on the other things. For the record, I like road performance just as much as the next person, and my earlier post is just an opinion I have about another feature of the car.

P.S. - Assuming your "drives" section is correct, when you trade in your F30 and get the XE, please let me know what you think. I am thinking of testing one once they hit the US.

Stopped watching after the guy said " i have been told the tail lamps have been changed " . If you could not figure this out on your own, you probably should not be reviewing this car

For what it's worth I've heard the Jag's fit & finish wasn't that great.

And we all know it's a heavy pig so maybe it should be compared to a 5 series.
