Muting navigation during calls

Does anybody know how to automatically mute the navigation voice instructions during a call? I can't see that this is covered in the owner's manual.

It's embarrassing when the satnav starts speaking during a call and there does not appear to be an option to prevent this happening. I've turned off the voice instructions at the moment, but it's not really a satisfactory solution.

Yes it is a crap feature, there is no quick mute button, or selection to auto mute in the menu.

I have complained about this with BMW.

Thanks. I thought that I was missing something obvious!

The car is going in next week to have a fault with the seat heating corrected, so I'll mention the muting issue.

I'm a bit puzzled by this. My car mutes the nav sound automatically when I make or receive a call. It doesn't completely mute down to zero, but drops the volume back significantly so that, unless you have your overall nav volume set high, it's barely noticeable when you're on the phone.

I've not gone fiddling with any menus or anything. My car was like this out of the box. I have pro nav.

Do you have the standard sound option? I believe this only affected those with the uprated audio systems. Bizarre!

Ah yes, I do have HK sound system. It's a bit naff if you have to have HK just to get your satnav to mute on a call - really a bit naughty.

Funny, I just assumed it was part of a well thought-out sat nav system. I like my car (apart from noisy suspension) but BMW really need to sort their act out on describing what their accessories really do, rather than spouting a load of ethnical mumbo jumbo.

I have the 2012 pro-nav with standard sound. Navigation does not mute during calls with this setup either.

My service advisor checked and advised that non of the current BMW's mute the satnav during a call. Apparently, they tested a 5 series with the same result.

The advice was to move the Idrive knob left in the call to mute the satnav. I pointed out that it did appear somewhat dangerous to be driving, whilst talking on the phone and trying to select the menu option to mute call - this is something that should happen automatically.
