So the BMW is very much better than the GTI in the quality stakes. You can see it and feel it. Yes, it is a much better car. However, it is not that easy to use in town. But I'll get used to it.

Slightly better photos. Whats the consensus on the bumper?

2000 miles on the clock, so the seat has seen some use. Look like I got a skinny bum, do some squats tonight

Thanks Deyvy. Your seat looks fine and so does your rear bumper colour match. Any chance of a side view of the bumper (picture 3) in brighter light, please?

I thought that side photo would be good because it shows the reflection of the concrete pillar through the bumper to the main body. And the reflection, the shade of white is constant.

My own thought on this is that the rear bumper is at an angle so it doesn't catch the same light as the rest of the car.

I've got another photo, but its still not as light as you would want I think.

You'll have to wait till we get some better weather up here in Manc. Which could be a few months lol.

No, don't try lumping in rusty seat bases and faulty Nav systems into this, those would be bona fide faults. You are talking about cosmetics not coming up to your percieved standards. Which by the way, you saw before taking ownership of the car. The perfect time to reject seeing as both faults were as bad then as they are now.

Reality. Every new car made by XXX (Insert any OEM name here) has mismatched bumper paint. It has been explained before, the paints are different. Nothing new.

Same goes for the leather seats.

You've bought the highest volume mass produced 3 box sedan in Europe, not a Bentley.

I personally think that many of us would not have been able to afford to own a 330D 15 years ago, so congratulate BMW for being able to keep the price point at a mere £36k for such an epic car (M Sport version). Have they had to take cost reduction measures to achieve this? Absolutely no doubt. Look at it this way, a Golf GT 140TDi with DSG auto costs £24,190. A 330D SE Auto costs £27,083. In my book twice the car for less than £3k difference.

Well done BMW....amazing.

Would you rather BMW put the price up £8k and gave perfect colour matches and premium leather as standard?

Spacebug: It is not an outcome I really want as the F30 is a great car to propel but it needs to shape-up to its premium aspirations. I feel I am being reasonable in expecting a better standard of workmanship.

davyk31: Swapping seats would be too easy and too customer focused a solution. My primary mistake was I took the car to the local dealership who really did not want to get involved at the outset. I should have just shipped the car back to the supplying dealer who seem to be more customer focused.
You have had a bit of stick over some of the posts but
I have to sympathise with you whole heartedly with the production issues you have, after mailing Tim Abbott and having his reply, I have had a mail back from:
Harkan Suleyman
Customer Service Manager : Harkan.Suleyman@bmw.co.uk
He has spoken to my supplying dealer who has confirmed my problems after they had my car in dock.
The dealer is in the process of sending details of the problem back to BMW ,so a rectification can be arranged/sorted.
Regards my paintwork, they want the car in to look it over with a view to rectify, I will see as and when I get time as it's not obvious to anyone not looking for it.
I have spent just on £50K on this fully specced car and I like you expect it to leave the factory in A1 condition unfortunately this is not my first new BMW to come with problems, I am considering dropping them after this one if Quality Control does not improve.
EDIT: The only two cars new from BMW with no faults were X6 35DMS and F10 550i MS.

I know from personal experience how disappointing it can be to spend all this money on a BMW and for it to not come from the factory in perfect condition.

My list of problems so far has been:

Passenger seat booster constantly popping out. This happened whilst the dealer was showing me how everything worked so within 5 days it was back in the garage to be repaired. Took them over a month in the end as the part had to be ordered in. Sorted

RTTI on the sat nav not functioning and not able to connect to BMW Connect. Again, back to the dealer to resolve, couldn't resolve. Email to BMWCS with screenshots, sent on to BMW Germany and eventually they reset something at their end. Took 2 months to fix that one. Sorted

Squealing breaks at slow speeds. Minor problem which was sorted after they gave them a good going over. This one only took a day so considerably the best so far Sorted

Rusty seat bases. Whereas I can sort of live with minor problems like those above, for me, this is the biggest let down. Ok, it's something I would probably never have noticed if it hadn't been highlighted on here but this is a premium brand and even if it wasn't I wouldn't expect a brand new car to have rust. Taken it to show the dealer and emailed them photos. Not too helpful to begin with and I've not heard anything since I took it in but I'm hoping that was just Christmas shut down for them and they're doing something. We'll see, but this will be sorted one way or another!

All told, in just over 4 months of ownership I think my car has been back at the dealership for 7 days. If they decide to do something about the seats then that will be more time.

Am I disappointed they couldn't build a car where everything works as it should? Yes
Will I make sure they put everything right? Yes
Would it put me off another BMW? No.

I love my car and these are only minor problems which can be sorted. Until everything is sorted I am still going to drive my car and enjoy every mile

johnbmw6: Many thanks for your understanding and support. Much appreciated.

rjberry: Sorry to hear about your problems. At least you can understand how I feel. Thanks.

I do hope our problems will be sorted through the good offices of BMWCS.

F30AM - my 2 pence:.

this issues will get resolved (or you will agree a compromise/composation). Then you can start to enjoy the fab car (and it is)

Over the last six weeks i have not enjoyed my car enough (due to the issues) and that is a shame and perhaps a waste! Hopefully I am through the over side and focus on the more important positive things in life

Just had a email from BMW who are investigating my concerns. Let's see what transpires.

I am getting no luck at all here, they are suggesting waiting for an update 6 months down the road which is not the next one but the one after that
Taking the piss if you ask me.
No more BMW's at this rate for me, quality control has gone down the pan.

That's very annoying. I'm having a few problems with my Sat Nav, but this is probably user error. It also seems to lose all my saved DAB and FM stations. I'll keep a check on it.

Regarding my complaints, the Local Dealership told BMW my driver seat was good enough even though the 4 showroom cars had near perfect seats. He says its because my car is parked in the cold and not in a warm showroom! Fancy that explaination? Also, whilst the car was there for 3 days, the Leather Specialist saw it but did not touch it, I am now told!

I am waiting for a phone call from Harkan Suleyman as I write, I am not waiting 6 "F ing" months for them to put this right.
This Quality control is very poor, the thing with this system is "it does not make mistakes on all destinations" it seems random
Also the FM channels do not update to the best signals as the previous one did. If I select Heart it may be a poor signal but does not look for a better one.

I agree. Same problem. I've started using DAB even though it does not sound as good.
