2018 Kia Stinger Gt1 or 2016 BMW 340i

Torn between buying a 2018-2019 Kia stinger gt1-gt2 or a 2016-2017 BMW 340i M sport.

Both running around same price, the 340i will probably have a little more mileage.

I'm happy with both daily capabilities, interior and exterior designs/look.

Really looking for opinions on driving characteristics or in other words which one is more fun to drive.

Will probably tune both of them. Basic bolt ons.

Hopefully someone can give some advice that has driven both.

Thanks in advance!!

Garage List
I haven’t driven a Stinger, but I have looked at them fairly extensively. The “presence” of the car just doesn’t compare to the 3er. BMW has been building the compact sport sedan for more than 50 years and it shows in every way. I honestly can’t imagine just how much better a Stinger would have to drive to convince me to choose it over the total package of the 3er M Sport with a 704/M Sport suspension. Admittedly, I’m a pretty big BMW fanboy.

Never driven the Stinger, but my buggy owns a 2018 Genesis ("same/similar" car). It's a REALLY nice car, and right on par with the Germans.

Seats were diamond stitched and almost a mirror to the ones in our Audi SQ5, similar power out of the box as my 340.

Ride is awesome, power delivery awesome. He didn't throw it around in corners when I rode with him, so I cannot comment how it handled though.

Sounds like you already know which one to get.

EDIT: Just realized I was commenting on someone that wasn't the OP lol. Was on my phone.

The bmw b58 engine is second to none. No comparison here

I can empathize with your dilemma as I was adamant to get a Stinger (4 cylinder) for a few years. I can look past brands and a Kia didn't bother me at all. After I sat in a Stinger and test drove it, within a few minutes I realized the BMW had it beat handily:

1. Magic of Depreciation
2. Easy to code in features (added heated steering wheel to my 430i easily here in the garage)
3. Stop/start = better MPGs
4. The interior is amazing, love the seats with the thigh extender!
5. BMW aftermarket popularity
6. Forgot what this one is but the forum can weigh in on additional benefits/etc

I heard....the stinger maintenance is almost as expensive as BMW. Then again you get courtesy loaner when they keep your BMW.

2018 Kia Stinger Gt1 or 2016 BMW 340i

I test drove a kia stinger and a genesis g70 a few years ago when I was looking for a daily to pair with my then Audi RS5.

The engine is definitely adequate in the stinger. Where I thought it kinda fell flat was the transmission. For daily driving it's fine, but it just wasn't nearly as good when pushing the car a bit. The handling was pretty good as well, and if you compare to a stock msport 340 (without active dampeners) you'll probably prefer the handling of the stinger. It feels more firm. The 340's suspension is definitely built for comfort and if on the stock 225 tires, won't handle as well. But that can be quickly fixed with wider tires and upgraded suspension. I just went with Koni Special Actives with Eibach springs and much prefer the 340 all around compared to the stinger.

I think mod for mod, you'll enjoy the 340 far more in the end.

I noticed the Stinger and the Kia brand is doing well but i would never choose that over a 340i M Sport.

I've had my 340i for just under a year now and it still puts a smile on my face every time i drive it. The b58 is an absolute beast, and the mppsk is more than i'll ever need for daily driving and the occasional track day
